The reason for 3 gig of ram is that 32 bit Windows will only recognize 2.7 gig. The only way to use 4 gig is to install 64 bit WinXP Pro or 64 bit Vista (or 64 bit linux) The Pentium D is a dual core Processor. XP home only handles one processor so XP Pro (or Vista) is needed to utilize the second core. This is a good, fast set up. I set mine up with the PNY GeForce 8500 GT Video Card and it runs Medal of Honor-Pacific Assault BEAUTIFULLY at 1280x1024 resolution. I haven't used the on board video (I never do) so I can't really comment on that. There is also 2 IDE headers on the MB, which you don't see often any more. I really like that feature.

No it reality it can hold 4GB. Just because it only has 2 slots does not mean it can hold only 1GB in each slot. You could put 2 2gb sticks in which would equal 4gb or put in what comes with it which is a stick that holds 1gb and another stick that holds 2gb and that brings you to 3gb total...
