KIDZMOUSE PUTS COMPUTER LEARNING IN PALMS OF YOUNG HANDS

Half-Sized Computer Mouse, Featuring Rounded Profile and 'Squeeze' Activation, Gains Perfect '10' Rating from Leading Children's Website Advocacy Group.
San Mateo, CA

KidzMouse, Inc., a developer of niche-market computer peripherals for educational use, today announced KidzMouse, The Kid-Friendly Computer MouseSM. Available in three character designs-MollyMouse, BenjieBee, and CoolBug-the KidzMouse offers an enticing combination of features that finally make computers accessible and enjoyable for any young user, from toddlers to preteens.

Designed by a grandmother for her four-year-old granddaughter Molly, the KidzMouse works the way a child's hand works. It's roughly half the size of a conventional computer mouse, and features a rounded shape that better fits growing hands. The mouse also replaces the traditional mouse buttons with a squeezable "head" that covers the front one-third of the device. Children can activate the mouse by squeezing anywhere on the head.

"After trying to teach Molly to use a computer, it became obvious to me that her major obstacle was the mouse," said Susan Giles, CEO and founder of KidzMouse, Inc. "Standard mice force a child to "tap," which is a very difficult motion for children with developing motor skills. Squeezing is a much more natural and comfortable gesture for children, which is why I pursued a prototype that incorporates squeezing.

"There is no shortage of excellent computer programs targeted for children as young as eighteen months old, but until now there has been no appropriate control devices that allow young people to navigate those programs. KidzMouse is the first mouse designed to work the way small hands work," Giles said.

POSITIVE REVIEWS REFLECT TESTING
Early response for KidzMouse from child education experts and advocacy groups has been overwhelmingly positive:
"KidzMouse came out of the gate upon completion of our evaluation with a perfect "10" rating...there is no competition for a product so innovative in design such as this."-James B. Fisher, Executive Director, United Federation of ChildSafe Web Sites

"As both a new mom and as someone who has dedicated her career to helping people learn, I'm excited about KidzMouse. The 21st Century is going to demand some very unique skills from our children, and we need new tools to make that learning happen. Susan Giles, a true inventor, has created something in KidzMouse that is not only aesthetically exciting for children to work with, but highly functional as well."-Marina Leight, Publisher, Converge Magazine

KidzMouse designs have tested extensively with children across the country for comfort, ease-of-use, and overall appeal. Over 250 children aged two to ten sampled the mouse in both California and New York in school and focus group settings, giving the product an overwhelming endorsement.
Interestingly, many grown-ups with smaller hands have found the mouse attractive as well. Such users find the rounder shape more comfortable to hold, with the squeeze activation being both comfortable and intuitive.
