Systemax and AMD Announce Seventh Annual `Build Your Own PC Race for Charity' at COMDEX Las Vegas 2003
Media and analysts compete in exciting race to win cash and AMD Athlon(TM) 64 processor-based computer systems for needy schools and organizations
PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 2, 2003-- Systemax (NYSE:SYX - News), and AMD (NYSE:AMD - News), along with host Tiger Direct. (www.tigerdirect.com), today announced the Seventh Annual "Build Your Own PC Race For Charity" on November 18, 2003 at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel during COMDEX 2003.
This year's race will donate more than $100,000 in cash and computer equipment to educational institutions and non-profit organizations. Now in its seventh year, this event has already contributed more than $500,000 in cash and needed computer systems to worthy schools and charities across the country.
The competition will pit 30 industry-leading technology media and analysts from all across the country head-to-head to determine who can assemble a new state-of-the-art Systemax computer system based on the AMD Athlon(TM) 64 processor 3200+ in the fastest time. The AMD Athlon 64 processor is the world's first and only Windows®-compatible 64-bit PC processor, providing extraordinary 32-bit software application performance while allowing a simplified migration path to 64-bit computing.
First prize for the fastest time is a cash donation of $10,000 to the school or charity of the winner's choice. Second and third prize donations of $2,500 and $1,000 respectively are awarded to the winner's institution of preference. In addition, each participant gets the opportunity to donate the fully-loaded computer system worth an estimated $3,000 they've assembled to the school or organization of their choice.
Tying in with the AMD Athlon 64 processor name, the charity race will have a retro "1964" theme, complete with beach parties and British invasion decorations in the competition room. Additional manufacturers that have contributed products toward the 2003 event include Canon, NEC-Mitsubishi, Dymo and others.
More information on the race sponsors is available at www.systemax.com, www.amd.com and www.tigerdirect.com.
