D-Link Wireless Access Point
The DWL-2100AP is a Wireless Access Point that supports 802.11b/g standards. It’s capable of transfer rates up to 108Mbps and operates in the 2.4GHz frequency.
The new AirPlus Xtreme G DWL-2100AP Wireless Access Point features the latest technology to deliver data transfer rates up to 108Mbps in the 2.4GHz frequency. The DWL-2100AP can be configured to perform in any one of five modes — as a wireless access point, as a point-to-point bridge with another access point, as a point-to-multi-point wireless bridge, as a Repeater for a range extension, or as a wireless client. It also supports SNMP v.3 for better network management with the provided Wireless AP Manager software that manages network configuration and firmware upgrades. Plus, the DWL-2100AP is fully compatible with the IEEE 802.11b standard, so it connects with all existing 802.11b-compliant devices.

I attempted to set it up with the included disk and failed. Then I followed the procedure in the "Quick Start" and it worked perfectly. I guess you have to read the instructions. It has worked flawlessly ever since.

Oops I messed up... I thought I could use this device to extend the range of my Linksys Router, but there is a limited number of family devices that can be wirelessly extended. Also WDS is limited to the family of products. Makes sense, but was not clear when I was researching the product. I like the AP features, setup and software.

Needed a replacement for a dead Netgear AP. This unit was easy to setup. Didn't use the software for setup, just the web interface. Works great with Wii, Zune80, PS3, Gateway Notebook. Using WPA2-PSK with AES. Used the same setup as I had with the netgear and everything just worked. Not using the super G because none of my Wi-Fi networked items have anything but basic G.

I've purchased at least 20 of these units over the years, So I guess this makes me a bit of an authority on them. I've found them to be very easy to setup and they perform great. The only negative I've found is they need to be located in locations that are not exposed to temp extremes. When placed in an unheated/ cooled room I’ve had a few fail, otherwise I would say this is a good product.

Bought this as my first foray into the realm of wireless networking and found it to be a very good unit. Easy to set-up and performed flawlessly first time. I have had nothing but success with D-Link products (routers, kvm switch) so this really no surprise. Model with POE would have provided more flexibility in locating the unit, but that's for next time.
