No more hot legs!
And I'm not talking about the old Rod Stewart song! After a long day at work I often have my laptop on my legs while also watching TV. So many times this would cause leg pain from the heat of the laptop. I did not want a unit with fans for various reasons. This provides a gap between the laptop and my legs and the airflow keeps my legs and the laptop cool, as well as providing a cushion between the two.
