For a fully equipped security system, the Proximus P16-41439 Video Security Kit is sure to handle the job for you! The Proximus P16-41439 Video Security Kit comes with everything you need to keep a good eye on your surroundings, including a pre-installed 500GB hard drive, digital video recorder, 8 day & night cameras, eight 60-foot long cables, a remote control and a USB mouse. The digital video recorder features 30fps recording resolution, D1 recording options, H.264 video compression and 8 audio inputs (audio cameras not included). You can record in manual, alarm or time settings, whichever is more convenient for you. You can also set the digital video recorder to record only when motion is detected by the cameras which save valuable space on the DVR’s hard drive. Once motion has been detected, you can receive a real time email alert with an image attached.

Horrible DVR unit
Worst product I ever bought. The DVR unit goes through a perpetual rebooting sequence.

Bang for Buck
The bang for buck ratio is awesome. The key is, yes, it's only 400TVL, but it does have great IR to 30 feet. At light it looks like the cam is mounted next to a porch light. The installation only took 6.5 hours. Professionally done though. Bought this on sale for 299. The key is, the DVR HDD can be expanded through the USB connection. Also, it is set up for PTZ. What that means is, down the road, if you want to upgrade camera, you already have the runs completed BNC, and the DVR can do PTZ. Nice bonus! For what you get? GREAT DEAL.

good quality for the price
cameras are a little grainy but overall a good package going to buy 1 for the horse barn to keep track of what goes on in and around the barn

Works well for the price
This system was pretty easy to set up. I was disappointed to find out that it will only work with Internet Explorer when you try to manage the system remotely. Otherwise it is not too bd for the money.

Good value
You can use nix. The bad requirement seems to be because they've done some odd thing in the back up format so you need to use their conversion program to turn it into an avi file. It's OK because it runs under Wine with no problems. The unit probably uses direct X or something for the pan and tilt stuff but that's not available with the cameras it comes with anyway --and I did not care about that feature anyway. It seems to do exactly what it says it will do, so far. Odd thing is that the cameras will stay powered up even if the unit is off --separate power supplies, just put them on a power strip if you want to shut them down. Be sure to include them in any UPS solution. I've got 4 of the cameras on 120 foot cables, they seem to work as well as the ones on the 60' cables that come with the unit. I have not had these for a very long time yet so durability is an open question at this time.
