PCB issues

I have had this product about a year and a half and have had to replace the PCB twice. Contacting WD for assistance is absolutely a waste of time and effort, spend your money elsewhere on a quality product.

100% Failure rate

I bought a 1.5TB My Book drive, and it failed in 8 months. HP replaced it on warranty. The replacement drive was a 1.5TB USB 3.0 drive - and it failed within 4 months. Out of warranty, I ripped the enclosure apart and found that the drive itself was in perfect shape (it is now installed as an internal drive)- it was the enclosure (something on the PCB board) which had failed. HP offered me a replacement drive even though it was out of warranty - I declined their offer. I need to be able to trust my backups, and with a 100% failure rate (admittedly on a very small sample size) I won't touch this product again.

Good value. However, I looked at the included backup software, but removed it. I use the Norton 360 backup function

I'm using it to back up audio & video files. Plenty of storage space for the money. I like the dependability of Western Digital products, too, so would recommend this to anyone looking to purchase an external HD.

Plenty of storage space

I have a huge DVD collection and this will make a great place for me to back them up. I won't be using the included backup software, though. I reformatted the drive to take the software off of the drive for more space. I have always had good service from WD drives.

good hardware, useless software

The drive itself works well, but the software is no substitute for decent backup software. I had to go and buy Shadowprotect 4, which does proper backups, including drive images. IT would have been better if the drive came with no software at all. I should also mention that the instructions are minimal.

So Far So Good

I have only used it once so far to back up my 3 computers. I don't use the back up software that comes with the unit, so I can't comment on that. The unit worked fine. Lot's of storage for the money. So far, so good.

Runs very well, no issues

I replaced an older model that had done well for years, but would not work well with Windows 7. This one came up right away, stays on even when the computer is sleeping and runs very fast. I use it with Win7 backup and it works like a charm. I also shared a folder on it and backup two other computers onto it.

Nice bit of storage for the price

I use it for backup and storage of movies, photos, and critical information. No idea what the software included is like -- proprietary backup stuff is never useful for me because of the way I organize my files (don't ask!). But the drive has kept me from running out of space for a while, and with no problems.
