Very good product

Just bought this hard drive and hook it to my network. Everything work within 5 minutes. I can watch my photos or movie directly on my network on all my media player.

Worked great for about 2 months

Very easy to setup and use. Was using this to stream videos throughout the house, then one day it just stopped working. Solid yellow light on the front and will not reset. Tried different cat5 cable with no luck. It seems this is a common problem with this drive by looking at Google. Lost about 2 TB of data.

It's not all that it's advertised

It does the basics. Provides storage over the internet as advertised. But it is not at a rate of 100KBs (more like 8-10kbs) on internal pc's. If you try to connect to it externally and transfer files, It is recognizably to slow to work efficiently (even WD support admits this). It will, however, allow for other devises access to the media. But, do not expect to be able to tranfer files remotely.

Great option for Storing media for the whole house

We use one of these drives to keep all of our media on. We can access it from the laptops, the xbox, and the desktops, it has no problem keeping up even if multiple devices are accessing the content at once. Accessing media on the drive from mobile devices requires the videos and music to be in formats the devices already recognize.

Shared Storage comes in 1st place as a NAS backup

Works great

Been using these NAS drives the past month and they've been working great as my server backups. Not using the backup software that came with them since already had software for that.

It's OK and here is how you can use it privately.

It's one plus compared to See gate is that you can use the W D drive without having it call its mothership at any time. When I buy a hard drive I do NOT want it to go out on the cloud without me knowing what it is up to. With this drive that is possible. Just hook it up to a computer with a straight ethernet cord. Do NOT install any software that came with it. Surf to the drive (see below) and set to a static IP. Then connect computer to your router and block internet access to that static IP. Then hook up the drive to your LAN, and it will not be able to talk to the outside. (Note) You can set up your computer to provide DHCP. Alternately, you could just unplug the WAN side of your router, plug in the drive, set it to static, block that static address, then reconnect to WAN.

Easy to set up - difficult to get performance

The product installed easily. However performance was atrocious until I turned off all default settings. I have still been unable to get 100% backup - but my needed files are there.

Lots of storage for a reasonable price

3 TB for $200 is a good deal. Easy to install and manage. Simple, user friendly interface to add users and shares. Once installed, I moved all my data from my local HD to the NAS with plans to purchase another as a backup. Feature I like best is the ability to access files remotely via smartphone using WD2Go app. I highly recommend this device.

Good for the price

Good entry level Network Attached Storage device. Worked great during recent drive failure and needed to restore my important files. Don't expect lightning speed, but do expect excellent backup and storage of important files.
