Good Network Home Storeage Device
My son and I decided to purchase this device because we purchase a lot of dvds and noticed the degradation of them. So far most of the backups copied with no problem. Playing them from the NAS works well. The only problem is with the Remote Access. - advice - If the router you have has port-forwarding you have to engage the port to use it remotely! Wish they had the 3tb I originally tried to buy!!! Also, the security needs upgrading otherwise a great buy for the money!

Reasonable Home Network Server
This is easy to set up and use. The iTunes server starts right up and I've served video and audio to an Android tablet and Windows 7 media players. I have had difficulty with external USB storage causing the server to hang, and it seems to get confused if shares have the same names as folders. It is unfortunate that you cannot have a persistent connection without a password entered each time. On balance, it's a good home storage and media server.

Like it !
Wifi access is usefull. Apple software with no download option. It's easy to log from other computer at friends place for exemple and share our vacation picture that are stock on the drive, at home. Wifi access is otfen not working at all, but it's not determine yet if it's a Seagate or router issue. Would recommand it overall !

Great Buy
Easiest Network back-up I ever did! Purchased to back-up Church network and it worked great for three computers; have not tried the Android or IPad Apps to view information yet, but buying another for my home network!

Very Flakey product
I use NDAS products and was sure this product would be as good, NOT. Software looks good, but connecting to the drive and accessing files is a real pain, doesn't work every time.. Once connected, transfer speed seems to be good, but it takes a few tries... I am frustrated and wouldn't recommend this product if you what things to work right the first time.. Too bad I can't return the dawn thing..

Slow transfer speed
I got it for a great deal on black Friday, but it takes hours to transfer your files to it. It's great if you have a PS3 and lots of movies or music on your hard drive since it automatically connects and streams everything from your NAS drive.

Hardware fine; SW a nuisance. Value depends price
Works quite well and performance fine. Included SW is a pest constantly nagging you to upgrade for more $. Backup functions well enough, but you may want to replace it. Media streaming is OK, USB port and printer support a plus. Best thing really is to hack it and replace OS with Arch Linux or something similar.

Could be better
Acting as just a storage device it's fantastic, but as a network drive? Terrible so I had to order a Usb dock to replace that awful network dock.

Mixed feelings
Are you tight for space or need to access files from more than one computer and have a home network? Are you a penny pincher like me? Then this might be the ticket for you. Be forewarned though that - - the drive goes to sleep and needs to fully spin up again before you can have access to files. Even on my rocket of of computer, as a media server for MP3's this drags my PC (scored 7.4 on WEI) to a crawl. - Crappy interface. If I create a new share or try to connect a new computer to a share, when I enter user name and password it ALWAYS tells me the password is wrong. IF I enter a wrong password and then the correct one, it accepts it. It's quirky, and slower than expected. But, it does the the job of taking the burden off the host computer. On the plus side, it's fast enough to stream media files via wireless to our WII game console, which didn't have any problem recognizing the SMB share.
