I bought this device specifically because I was looking for the cheapest way to record video from my security cameras onto my Linux box. Video quality was not a concern. This is indeed compatible with Linux; all you need to do is compile the most recent development version of the v4l-dvb drivers (because the manufacturer recently updated the video capture chip used in this device). Note that I said
don't buy it

Nothing says ''Fix It'' to the manufacturer than seeing lots of returned units.

The software installed properly. That's the good point. It comes bundled with Cybermedia Power Director and Power Producer. However, aside from PD's awareness that the unit is plugged into the USB port, there is no communication. The preview screen is blank with a known good video source. No settings are available to make them talk nicely to each other. Reinstalling everything made no difference.
An email to Cybermedia resulted in my being told that a capture card is necessary to record external video sources such as a VCR.
Don't bother emailing KWorld's customer ''service''. It apparently doesn't exist.
The thing might work for others. For me it's wasted bucks.
May work for some applications

This may work fine for capturing video from a VHS or even audio from LP's, but it doesn't work for video streaming. We had planed to use it from a high end Sony camera for stream a program and for some reason, it doesn't like doing that. We hooked it up to capture video from a video tape and it work fine.
Does its Job Well!

I had a similar device with my previous computer (D-Link)This one has given me much better capture results. The former device (or was it my processor, RAM, etc.? was dropping frames at such a rate i had to capture at 15 fps to get consistent video. The KWorld allows me to capture at 30 fps if desired and comes with better software. No Problems!
Not bad for the price - Does the job

I downloaded the Vista driver from KWorld's website and the install was easy. The software it comes with works OK & it also works with virtualdub. The quality of the video is not that great but it also depends on the source video. It does the job and for the price you can't complain. If you want better quality transfers then get a higher end device. No sync issues at all for me. It looks cheaply made, no surprises there, but it's not bad for a bargain priced capture device if all you need to do is transfer old videos. Just don't expect DVD quality transfers, if that's what you want look for something else.

I got one of these from tigerdirect a while ago and ive hated it ever since. the whole screen look grainy and recording is a major problem everything audio and video goes out of sync fast. the only thing ive ever used it for since is hooking up video game consoles to play them on the computer screen other then that this device is junk!
