The StarTech S354UFER External Hard Drive Enclosure is a high-performance external RAID storage solution, supporting up to four 3.5" SATA hard drives up to a maximum total combined capacity of 8 TB (2 TB per drive).
The StarTech S354UFER External Hard Drive Enclosure can be connected to the host/source computer through USB, eSATA or FireWire and automatically builds your SATA RAID array based on your selection (Spanning, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 1+0, RAID 3, and RAID 5 supported), delivering a simple, yet flexible external storage solution.
Designed for convenience, the enclosure features front panel LED indicators that provide RAID information and simple hard drive status and activity monitoring. The enclosure also features a built-in 3-speed 80mm fan with automatic or manual controls that allow you to customize the speed of the fan as necessary, ensuring suitable operating temperatures for optimized drive performance. Good so far
My first unit arrived defective, it would not build any type of array. I have received the replacement and it is performing well so far. I have 4x2Tb Seagate green drives in it, in a raid 5 config. Speed isn't great, but this is for archiving so that isn't an issue for me. Set up was easy enough. The diagram in the manual regarding the switches on the back is confusing... look at it carefully. And if you plan on having an array larger than 2Tb , make sure to initialize the disk as GUID, not MBR in windows.

So far, so good
I've been using it for a month now. So far it's quieter than I expected and I have had no problems. I'm running it RAID 5. Be aware that you have to set it up with USB first, but after it is set up, you can use it with firewire 800 or whatever you want.

Great Product
I currently have 4 of these exact enclosures. the cons are the door but run extremely well on XP with a little bit of patience and changing a few settings. Currently running a total of 16TB in a raid 5 setup and never had an issue within the last year.

Very pleased
Nice to see a product packaged with every possible cable one might need, unlike so many peripherals. Surprisingly quick to initialize a RAID-5 array of four HDDs. Undocumented support for ext4 file system. Good response time & throughput on USB 2.0 compared to external USB drives I've dealt with in the past. Possibly a bit over priced, but that seems to be the way of things when it comes to hardware RAID.

doesnt work on my XP
Worked fine on my Vista laptop. Initialized the disks there. Went to hook it back to the XP pro computer. Still does not see the drive. Don't know what to do now. Neither does tech.
