All you need for gaming
First off, The ''sales talk'' isn't lying to. 2 real cores performing as 4 logic cores makes a huge difference. No, it doesn't beat an i7-9xx mainly because most i7's are two i3's put together with added features(hence 4 real cores working as 8 logical). But at that point it is massive overkill for most users. Now, the sales talk that IS a lie is the fact that you need to buy an i7 to play hardcore games. That's complete hogwash. As far as this product is concerned. I would stay away from the entire 1156 socket since it is becoming outdated fast from the release of sandy bridge and the upcoming ivy bridge.

SLOW processor - Go with I7 series
Don't buy the sales talk that the 2 cores with 2 threads on the i3 540 is like having 4 cores and is as fast or faster as the old quad cores because it isn't. GO WITH I7 SERIES. If you want any kind of effective speed and multitasking ability. I3 540 is cheap and slow slow slow.

GR8 for GAMING!!!
This is a dual core processor with HT. I have installed it in my GAMING RIG. This processor has by far blown my expectations out of this world. I game about 30hrs or more a week. This processor does not need to be overclocked to play Battlefield Bad Company 2. Exceptional Performing Processor. I will keep you posted in the future about any pros or cons.

Just to clarify
Great processor for the money. And just to clarify misconceptions from previous comments, it is a dual core. Windows will show four cores because of the hyperthreading, Intel's logic core duplication allowing each physical core to be used as two logic cores, another reason why it can compete with it's big brothers.
