Good product but difficult to install

I don't know if this product is necessary and there are limits to where it can be used because it is bulky. It is also difficult to install. I had to reposition the cooler because it interfered with the contacts on the first try. Now that it is installed I have reason to believe that a potential overheating problem has been diminished.

Great price, works well, but

they are a little tricky to install. they come with adhesive strips on the inside that are supposed to be pressed against the chips on the memory, but the design of the cooler makes it a bit difficult to perfectly align everything. After struggling with the 1st one, I simply just slide the other 3 on the other memory without removing the adhesive covers, and clipped the coolers in place. They seem to work just fine this way, and I immediately noticed an improvement once installed.

Although I agree, that a comprehensive test of cooling performance needed, in my opinion, the best circustancial evidence is that a significant number of the chip manufacturers volunterly install some variation of this cooler. As far as I'm concerned, all of them should have cooler attached to it, right at the factory. And at this juncture where I arrive to my second point: Since it is mainly less expensive memory modules lacks these coolers, which logically bought by price sensitive buyers, even the $6 additional expense is considerable, since the buyer probably need multple number of them. I recall that Ultra memory ccoler were half the presently posted price, not very long time ago. (Say, 5-8 yrs ago) Doubling of the prices during such short interval, seem to me unreasonably steep, specially because with this item neither the manufacturer, nor the vendor carry the risk of obsolescence,like in the majority of their products.

Unknown Quantity

After examining the product, I had doubts as to whether the cooler would indeed result in a cooler or perhaps hotter memory card and elected not to install it. The aluminum exterior does indeed provided increases surface area for convection, however the rather thick, foamy adhesive attachment pads must provided considerable insulation between the chips and the aluminum. I'd need to see some data or at least a detailed analysis before installing this product.

A must have

I purchased two of these to put on 2 of my chips that I had removed the high heat shields on. Seems that the better, faster, less costly ram comes with huge heatshields. Some of the coolers just won't work with these high heatshield ram. They have two sided tape and install easier that removing the factory heatsinks. Worked great to solve my ram cpu cooler problems.

These appear to be good quality. The adhesive thermal tape unfortunatly needs to adhear to the actual chips. Most memory chips are outfitted with a paper warranty sticker. If removed the memory warranty is voided. This cooler requires you to adhere the thermal tape to the chip and to avoid voiding the warranty you need to apply over the paper tape. rated this item less than perfect.
