I sent this right back because I discovered that it would NOT output any video signal. If it had, I might have rated it a bit higher. At any rate, the user's guide is horrible and doesn't help in the setup at all. Luckily, I have been setting up home theatres for several years. It's a shame that this make doesn't work - it's one of the few out there that still has S-Video (which was why I bought it).

My old receiver blew up a few weeks ago and the Denon AVR589 was an inexpensive replacement. This refurbished unit is an excellent value for the dollars. It sounds great, and works beautifully. The only gripe I have is that during the setup you need to press the left arrow button, which is very difficult to find. Hint: Turn the knob to the left. This is an excellent buy.

This receiver is complicated to setup in terms of inputs. The HDMI ports are tied to other inputs therefore it is one or the other. If you use HDMI 1 then you loose Component 1 and S-vid 1 etc. Also, it is HDMI passthrough but it will not grab the audio, you have to run seperate audio line-in. The manual does a terrible job of explaining this. Basically its an audio receiver with an HDMI switch...dumb. I have had this less than a year, used a couple dozen times, and it shuts itself down after about 30 minutes of use. I assume it is overheating, and of course I am beyond the warranty. Buy the extended warranty and hope it quits during the term.

What Is USB 2.0?
USB 1.1 was great when it was introduced almost a decade ago. But
the newer USB 2.0 transfers data dramatically faster - up to 40 times
quicker. Plus, USB 2.0 provides additional bandwidth for multimedia and
storage applications, which are growing larger every year. Also to your
advantage is the fact that USB 2.0 is forward and backward compatible with
USB 1.1, which means that cables and connectors made for the original USB
configuration will also work perfectly in a USB 2.0 port, though some newer
devices are specifically designed for USB 2.0. It is always a good
idea to verify the version of USB supported by each device you want to use.
