Window 8 is stable in gaming.

I play allot of GTA 4. My Windows 7 on multi PC's would crash to desktop, & you would have to click on icon in task bar to get back in to game. Have not seen this problem in Windows 8 Pro yet. Pop Cap games have trouble with the old games before Plant Vs. Zombies. Great web browsing in desktop mode. Have not tried start menu mode yet. Works for me with FX8350, R7970, 16GB 1600MHz memory, & M5A78L-M LX PLUS motherboard with Samsun 840 Pro SSD & 3TB Toshiba HDD. Very Fast.

Win 8 + Classic Shell

Pros: speedy startup, win8 best supports my Asus G75vx due to win7 lacking supporting drivers, uses less resources compared to Win 7. Cons: Metro UI on non touching desktops. Fix: If you hate the Metro UI that win8 provided and the fact it took away the start menu, go download a free open source program called classic shell and it should give you back the start menu and disable the metro style ui from starting up; of course you can still use the Metro UI but you have to manually access it. Other problems I had personally: Do not pick eco shipping option; it's a ups surepost which is ups delivering it to usps who in my area are really terrible delivering carriers. Do not pick that option if you want to delivery your package because it takes more than 2 weeks to deliver to your door and in my case, I had to go pick it up at the usps office after they fail to deliver it another day they didn't have my package on the day I was suppose to pick it up.

Very different, but once you get used to the start screen being, basically, a greatly expanded start menu it all starts making more sense. The system is snappy! Love how fast everything loads. With my system, it takes twenty seconds from turned off to entering in the user password.

Does what it is supposed to

Built a new PC so I needed an operating system and thought I should add Windows 8 to my experience as I support people running all recent flavors of Windows from XP to 8. Was a bit frustrating at first, but 98% of the time I'm in the desktop so after adding icons to all the programs I want access to it runs well. Some great new features like virtual raid are worth the upgrade. I pray MS does not go any further into the modern UI without making the desktop an option to switch to. They should have kept the Windows 7 start menu, after all, the modern UI is only a press of the Windows key away. Streaming access to my tablet will make the modern UI useful for those few occasions, otherwise I need the desktop and real programs to be productive.

Built a computer and so far have not had any problems with it. Thee was a small learning curve but easy to catch on to.

Installed in new build

built new pc and decided to buy win 8 64 bit to take advantage of 8g of ram. With the SSD drive it starts and runs programs fast. Easy to setup. I downloaded the xp desktop and go directly to it bypassing the start screen. Turned off a lot of the start screen apps. Easy to setup network with wireless printer and old XP pc. No problem running any older or newer games or programs on it.

Been using now for a month. Yeah, there was a learning curve. So what? I will be installing Win8 on my other systems. Allied with an SSD the boot and shutdown time are tremendous. More than happy to recommend Win8.
