The Smarthome Hidden IR Repeater System
The Smarthome Hidden IR Repeater System allows you to use an existing infrared (IR)
remote control to operate up to eight audio/video (A/V) components. If your Home
Theater componets are hidden behind closed doors or walls in an entertainment
cabinet or equipment closet, the Smarthome Hidden IR Repeater System is the
accessory you need to be able to control your components with your remote.
Here's the problem: you have your audio & video components either hidden in
cabinet, or your are just plain out of the Infrared beam range of your remote
control. Wouldn't it be great if you could control all of your remote
control electronic regardless of where you are or where they are?
The Smarthome Hidden IR Repeater System is the answer! connect devices
that are hidden so they can still be controlled by their individual remote, or
by a universal remote. Or if you have devices that don't have much remote
range, or a narrow angle, you can control them regardless of where you are in
the room.
What It Is and Why You Need It
Controls to operate up to eight audio/video components
Works with your existing remote
What It Does:
Allows any IR remote to control hidden components
Sends IR signals through opaque doors or to an equipment closet
Confirmation LED acknowledges receipt of IR commands
Single Hidden IR receiver allows remote control of up to 8 A/V devices
You don't need to leave cabinet doors open when you're enjoying your home
theater. Keep your A/V components hidden from helpful little fingers, or just
make your room look better, by keeping the doors closed. By setting up the
Hidden IR™ infrared signal distribution system in your entertainment center,
you'll be able to control up to 8 A/V devices secured in closed cabinets or
closets up to 35 feet away using your existing IR remote control. This home
theater accessory is so easy to use, it sets up in minutes and requires no
drilling or rewiring. Your friends will think you had a pro install it!
What's Included:
Hidden IR Repeater Box
8 IR emitters
IR receiver
Confirmation LED
Power supply
2 pieces of Velcro for mounting
Instructions
You can link your Hidden IR Repeater system to your A/V equipment in minutes.
Just place the Hidden IR repeater box in your equipment cabinet, affix one of
the eight included IR (infrared) emitters to each A/V device's IR window, and
mount the IR receiver using the included Velcro™ tape in a location where it can
receive your IR remote control's transmitted signals. Place the IR receiver on a
shelf or on an exposed part of the cabinet; its black color helps it hide
beneath equipment of back in the shadows. It does need to be in a direct line of
sight from your normal seating position when you'll be using your remote. Use
your A/V remote control as usual: The Hidden IR will transmit your command to
the correct home theater component, so you'll be able to use your entertainment
devices as usual, even though they'll be hidden from view.
A green confirmation LED blinks when the Hidden IR Repeater system is receiving
a remote control command, otherwise remaining unlit. Please note that when
hiding your AV equipment, some components run hot and might require a cooling
fan.
The 8 emitters included can control many different A/V devices. They're made of
material that's transparent to IR light, so commands can still pass directly to
individual components if desired. You may stick the emitter over the IR emitter
on each component, or place on the shelf in front of the component if you prefer
- they're powerful enough to get the signal to the component. Each emitter has a
6' cord so you can easily run emitters to different components. A 120 volt AC to
12 volt DC adapter is included. For use in 220/240 volt countries, use a locally
obtained 220/240 VAC to 12 volt DC, 100 mA adapter.
Although not designed to reject interference from plasma or LCD TVs, you can
work around this by installing the IR receiver eye in an area that isn't exposed
to the TV screen - at the back of a bookshelf, on the wall below or next to the
TV - somewhere the eye can't "see" the TV image. Just make sure you still have a
direct line of sight from the eye to your normal seating position. See the
diagram below for ideas.
The standard cable from the IR eye to the repeater box is 6' long; If you need
more cable length, add our 25' Extension Cable.

It is a wired device limited to about 12 feet from the IR receiver to the transmitter which is attached to your device if yo uplan your layout well, if not then about 6 feet. So keep that in mind. It has one IR receiver which transmits a signal to the eight transmitters so you can attach one to each device such as a cable box, dvd, etc. I just wanted to get teh dvd out of sight inteh other room. Worked great. Some have complained about the distance the reciever has but I have agreaqt big room a s it works fine from a good distance
So convenient I bought another.

It has one IR receiver which transmits a signal to the eight transmitters so you can attach one to each device such as a cable box, dvd, etc. I have my cable box in a cabinet so the door of the cabinet has to remain open to use the remote. Not anymore. I liked the simple setup and use so much I just bought another one to use in another room. I may just buy a third one for the basement just for the conveience of pointing the remote at one place in the room instead of all over depending on which device I want to control.
