The only way I was able to get this drive to work on my SATA 1.5 system was to steal a jumper from another drive -- which rendered that drive inoperable.
Before buying the drive I contacted Segate presales support who assured me they would send me a jumper if I needed one. After I bought the drive and found that it did need a jumper to step it down from 3.0 to 1.5 I called support who then refused to ship one to me. The service tech was very rude and stated that they didn't have any. When I told him the presales rep had told me that they did and that they would send one to me he told me I had to buy one somewhere. When I told him nobody sold them he told me that was my problem not Segate's.
So, the manufacturer not only did not support their product, they lied to me as well. |

No issues at all with this drive, installed flawlessly, and is running Win7 Pro 64 with lightning speed. Yes, it is OEM, so it does not come with a cable, make sure to read the description. Much better then any WD I have ever used, I will never go back to them. |

Bought this drive for a new file server I'm building. JUNK! Drive arrived DOA! Tried different SATA cables, SATA power connectors, SATA ports, and even 2 other computers. Nothing! Not even detected by the BIOS! I will not buy this brand again soon. Too bad they bought out the company I used to use for the last 20 years. Goodbye old friend, you will be missed! |

Failed within 2 months of very light usage. Unfortunately, I did not recognize the failure until it was too late. Bye bye data!
I have always used W D drives (zero failures), but thought I might give the 7200.12 a try based on others recommendations. Very unlikely to ever purchase any of these drives again. Next step... see if the warranty is any good. Crossing my fingers. |

First of all, know that this does NOT come with cables. If you need an extra cable, browse to wherever they keep the SATA cables and buy one. They were pretty cheap last I looked. This did not bother me in the least because I owned what I needed (as this was a replacement, not an addition) and I was fully aware of what I was buying.
I have been using the drive for a couple weeks now (and am using it now). So far, the drive is working perfectly. Admittedly, I did what I always do with new drives and ran SpinRite on it first thing. No problems detected whatsoever. The drive works like a charm. For the price, as of when I am writing this, I doubt you'll find a better deal than this hard drive. It's a lot of storage with a very nice cache size and average speed at a great price. Seagate did have some problems (at least, PR problems) with the 7200.11 line of drives, but from everything I've read, the 7200.12 line is fine. I'd recommend this hard drive. |
