Product Details
Zoom 5654X5 ADSL Modem/Router
The Zoom 5654X5 ADSL Modem/Router integrates a full-rate ADSL 2/2+ modem, router, firewall, four-port 10/100 Ethernet switch and a USB port into a single cost-effective product. Concurrent Ethernet and USB connections are supported for flexibility in operating with a range ofv devices. Up to five computers can be plugged into the X5 directly and each can enjoy simultaneous independent Internet access.
The Zoom 5654X5 ADSL Modem/Router is compatible with older ADSL protocols as well as the new ADSL 2/2+ standards for download speeds of up to 24 Mbps and extended distances over which high data rates can be delivered.
The built-in four-port Ethernet switch eliminates the need for a separate Ethernet hub for most home networks and many small offices. The Ethernet ports on the X5 provide connection to computers running most operating systems, including Windows as well as Linux, Unix, and Mac Operating systems. The USB port supports connection to a Windows computer. The Zoom 5654X5 ADSL Modem/Router can also be plugged into a hub or wireless access point to provide concurrent Internet access for up to 253 networked computers.
Security features include Network Address Translation (NAT), Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), and an extensive list of other security controls. An Installation Wizard makes setup a snap, and an auto configuration option automatically establishes the protocol and encapsulation used by the ADSL service. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is supported for remote maintenance by network administrators. Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) provides easy Local Area Networking configuration and operation.

Zoom Modem works as advertised
I gave this modem to a friend of mine. She tried it and it work well as a replacement. As long as you have your account information set up is a breeze . Work on the first time for set up. It does indeed run hot. However she doesn't have to deal with the PPOE client which is a big plus. It also can be ready for next generation DSL i.e DSL 2. All sound good values. I would just ad this router does not default to 192.XXX but 10.XX addressing . So you have to change that in the user settings. This is a little vague but beyond that I can't find any major issues. In fact this router has settings that allow you to configure static address f you have a server SPI plus port mapping . Quite a bit for your money. If you don't have huge bandwidth requirement like torrents good router to choose . I have read this router might not be able to handle bandwidth intensive stuff.

Just what I was looking for
This modem-router was just the product I was looking for. It was easy to set up, and it works fine with all the computers it's connected to. The USB connection option was also quite handy in connecting a very old computer which had no high-speed network card. The included software installed the drivers quickly. This modem-router does seem to run a bit warm, but evidently that's to be expected, judging from reviews of similar products. Overall, no problems. Just set it and forget it. Glad I got this when I did (Sept 2009), since it is listed as Currently Unavailable at the time of this review.

Great deal
The Zoom 5654X5 ADSL Modem/Router was so very easy to set up. Much easier than the ActionTec modem Qest sales you when you first subscribe to their service. The connection is much stronger however I miss the Internet indicator light. I cant for the life of me understand why one was not included in the design.
