Onkyo HT-S5200 Home Theater System
If you want an idea of where Onkyo is heading, the Onkyo HT-S5200 Home Theater System is worth checking out. Like previous Onkyo 7.1-channel receiver/speaker packages, the Onkyo HT-S5200 Home Theater System delivers hefty amounts of power and all-round performance. And in line with other recent offerings, it’s also suited for high-definition entertainment in the home: 1080p video takes center stage from sources such as Blu-ray Disc, DVD, HD broadcasting, and gaming. The emphasis is still on Onkyo’s audio prowess, so the Onkyo HT-S5200 Home Theater System is equipped with 3 groundbreaking Audyssey technologies that will give you the edge in terms of surround sound. It also features some exciting innovations from Onkyo: a dedicated port that connects the iPod via the Dock for the iPod and DSP modes specifically designed for gaming.

This unit has great sound and can fill a large area with some very dynamic sound. The HDMI is not working with my 42 inch LCD TV. This is a pain but because the TV has 4 HDMI ports and coax digital audio out it is easily worked around. After speaking with the Onkyo tech support they stated that it is the HDCP compliance of the TV. This is a reasonable answer since the start up menus for the attached devices come up and the HDMI ports only black out when the signal switches to 1080. Overall the Onkyo is a very feature rich unit, which is plus and a minus. You get a great deal of control over the sound, but it can also be confusing and difficult to identify which setting is needed.
The negative is the pass through HDMI with active HDCP.
Overall I would buy another Onkyo, and am pleased with the performance of this system. It replaced a Samsung HT-X50.

GREAT VALUE.... THE ONLY PROBLEM IS I COULD HAVE USED MORE SPEAKER WIRE BUT THAT REALLY WAS THE ONLY PROBLEM AND IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL SYSTEM ITSELF. THE HDMI PASSTHRU WASNT THAT BAD BECAUSE I WAS PREPARED FOR IT. SO ALL IN ALL GREAT BUY

This system is a great value. I don't think it is the best system, but the sound quality is great and if you can tolerate the small quirks you get a great value. Quirk 1: HDMI is pass-through only. No big deal, as long as you are prepared for it. Quirk 2: It takes a couple of seconds for the sound to start after I resume my DVR after a pause or a skip forward back. (My PS3 doesn't have this same issue.) My previous surround sound system didn't exhibit this quirk, so I know it is something to do with this brand or model. No big deal, I got used to it, and overall I'm satisfied with this system. Like I said: you are getting a great value for a 7.1 surround sound system that SOUNDS great. Just deal with the quirks.

Dolby Pro Logic IIx expands choice in playback system configuration (allowing 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 playback channels) and, when incorporated into an A/V amplifier or receiver, allows a convenient upgrade path from a traditional 5.1-channel sound system to 7.1 output channels.
DTS Neo:6
Provides 5.1 or 6.1 channels of matrix decoding from stereo matrix material.
Also decodes Extended Surround matrix sound tracks and has a Music mode
to expand stereo non-matrix recordings to 5.1 or 6.1 channels.
