Good player for the money. It plays every blu-ray disk I tried so far. Quick start-up. There have been a few pauses when playing back blu-ray movies, but the player always recovered and continued. I wish the remote had a button for subtitles. Instead I have to delve through menu options to turn them on or off. The viera cast is a gimic at this point. It is not nearly as user friendly as my computer for accessing the internet.

Great playback of blu-ray and standard dvds. Never used any other upconverting player, so I have nothing to compare to, but the quality is usually amazing.
We got one of these to hook up to our samsung LN40B550 hdtv (40" lcd tv). Except for a few old tv series on old discs - femme nikita and prime suspect can look very grainy and often have tearing - pretty much every standard dvd we've played looks great to incredible. Blu-ray looks much sharper and richer, of course, but we don't have to throw out our old dvds and can play new blu-ray discs as we get them.
Only hook it up through a 1.3 (category 2) hdmi cable - you'll get a very clean picture this way.
Also remember to set up the player and your hdtv for optimal viewing of movies (lowering sharpness settings on the tv, telling the player what kind of hdtv you have - 1080p or 720p, etc.).

After installing this unit twice, I had to return the first and then the second for a full refund. I called Panasonic and they couldn't fix the light white speckles floating across my screen when connected to HDMI. Everyhing was checked, cables to different hook-ups. No speckles were seen when connected with RCA composite cables, but who wants to do that? My old DVD player had a better picture quality. This is too bad since I had high expectations from reading reviews elsewhere. FYI- On the phone Panasonic's tech support Rep admitted this unit has problems.
I switched to an LG BD-370 unit and I'm very pleased, it even comes with YouTube, CinemaNow and Netflix online movie rental services, very convenient.
