I love this camera, don't expect this point to shoot to fit in your jean pocket. Its bulky but thats because of the cannon of a lens, 12x optical zoom. I bought this camera to take concert photos when I can't use my dSLR. I needed something that could handle low light and distance. This camera handled both. I got great close ups and vivd colors. The menu is pretty easy to use for what I wanted, turning off the flash, color and white balance, etc. The other day I was sitting on my back deck and saw a deer walking through the woods. I used this camera's 48x digital zoom to get a fantastic close up that had pretty good quality, you lose some quality zooming that far. The 12x range shows incredible quality and the big lcd is nice and bright. I would recommend the camera if its what your looking for.

Well priced for so many features in such a small form factor.
Pros: The SX200IS has a lot of features so I won't list them all... the 12x zoom is great and image stabilization a must for a point-and-shoot at that range. Servo motor allows rapid zoom and a contolled slower zoom. The HD video image is very sharp and the color good, although I've only viewed it on a monitor and not my HDTV yet.
Cons: No optical zoom in video mode. Tendency to overexpose the image in high contrast settings. HD video shoots 720p, not 1080p. Slight fringing in bright settings (only noticeable at full resolution and seems to happen with most small lenses with a lot of pixels)
Advice: Good buy for a great camera; only the photofiles will have issues. Purchase the Pelican 1010 micro case; holds the camera as though it were designed for it. Get a mini-HDMI cable if you want to playback directly to and HDTV

Great value - HD video AND 12 MP resolution.
Annoying levels of menu after menu, and large dial distance from Movie to Auto mode. Granted, not everything can be adjacent to match every person's preference, but these two would seem to be the average person's two favories.
Great quality. Annoying design of flash pop-up under my left index finger.
Blotchy video and still photo's in low light. Would have expected better indoors.

MEGAPIXELS AND PHOTO PRINT SIZE
The
photo print quality of your images depends on the camera's "megapixel
rating." The higher number of pixels your camera has, the higher the resolution
(or sharpness) of your images---and the larger your prints can be without
quality loss.
Digital Camera Flash Storage
Capacities
* Average file size
using cameras highest resolution JPEG mode. Actual number of
photos, songs, and minutes will vary depending on camera/device model,
format resolution and compression, usable capacity, and bundled software.
Actual usable memory capacity may vary. 1MB equals 1 million bytes; 1GB
equals 1 billion bytes.
NUMBER OF IMAGES STORED ON A DIGITAL CARD The number of
pictures you can take varies depending on your camera model and complexity
of the scene being photographed. To calculate how many pictures your card
can hold, divide the capacity of your card by the average file size of your
images. For example, if you have a 256MB card, and use a camera that has an
average file size of 1.2MB, then 256 divided by 1.2 gives you approximately
213 pictures. As you change modes on your camera, the number of images will
increase if you shoot in a lower resolution mode, and decrease if you shoot
in a higher resolution mode.

What Is USB 2.0?
USB 1.1 was great when it was introduced almost a decade ago. But
the newer USB 2.0 transfers data dramatically faster - up to 40 times
quicker. Plus, USB 2.0 provides additional bandwidth for multimedia and
storage applications, which are growing larger every year. Also to your
advantage is the fact that USB 2.0 is forward and backward compatible with
USB 1.1, which means that cables and connectors made for the original USB
configuration will also work perfectly in a USB 2.0 port, though some newer
devices are specifically designed for USB 2.0. It is always a good
idea to verify the version of USB supported by each device you want to use.
