If you are looking for a sturdy camera with great zoom then look no further then the Nikon P90.
24x Optical Zoom makes sure you get the shot from whatever distance. It's a step up from the standard point and shoot but it lacks in quality when taking picutres in a darker environment. Compensation for lighting makes pictures fuzzier then they should be and when enlarged you can see small bluish dots in some places in the picture.
Picutres outside, with adequate lighting or when using the built in flash, turn out well and can be used to make clear, large prints.
There is a museum mode, which is nice and worked well on a recent trip where flash was prohibited, although it seems to make the photo overly yellow, this can usually be adjusted with a simple, free photo editing program.
With a multitude of other options, this camera will not leave you wanting for anything more then a firmware update from Nikon to fix the noise issue.

This camera will get the shot but the quality is not the same for this small sensor as the SLR D90. Smaller sensor means more noise. to me the difference is only noticeable on larger prints. My favorite feature so far is the macro closeup. The face of my watch takes up the whole frame. This is a great camera to study composition because you have such a wide range of focal lengths. If I had and extra $2500 I would buy the Nikon D90 and extra lenses that could do what this camera does at a higher level.

MEGAPIXELS AND PHOTO PRINT SIZE
The
photo print quality of your images depends on the camera's "megapixel
rating." The higher number of pixels your camera has, the higher the resolution
(or sharpness) of your images---and the larger your prints can be without
quality loss.
Digital Camera Flash Storage
Capacities
* Average file size
using cameras highest resolution JPEG mode. Actual number of
photos, songs, and minutes will vary depending on camera/device model,
format resolution and compression, usable capacity, and bundled software.
Actual usable memory capacity may vary. 1MB equals 1 million bytes; 1GB
equals 1 billion bytes.
NUMBER OF IMAGES STORED ON A DIGITAL CARD The number of
pictures you can take varies depending on your camera model and complexity
of the scene being photographed. To calculate how many pictures your card
can hold, divide the capacity of your card by the average file size of your
images. For example, if you have a 256MB card, and use a camera that has an
average file size of 1.2MB, then 256 divided by 1.2 gives you approximately
213 pictures. As you change modes on your camera, the number of images will
increase if you shoot in a lower resolution mode, and decrease if you shoot
in a higher resolution mode.
Contents of package may vary from those pictured and stated here,
due to changes in manufacturer's specifications or merchandising.
