Easy Unit
I bought this to replace a NetGear NAS whose power unit failed. Apparently this was a fairly common problem; the good news is that NetGear has replaced the on-board power supply with a power brick. This unit seamlessly picked up the configuration from the old one.

Unit worked on PC but will not communicate on MAC
Brought the unit setup in PC which work. But will not communicate with the mac pro. Called in the support line went through 3 people and all they do a pull out the 20 or so hard drive compatibility list and said your hard drive is not compatible and won't troubleshoot with you. It is now a paperweight. Will never buy net gear product ever again.

Great buy
This is my second ReadyNAS Duo. Rock-solid performance. Only annoying thing is after a non-UPS protected power failure the whole drive has to check for errors. With a 2TB drive, this can take a while. Other than that, well worth the money for an intro NAS machine.

Great product - but Documentation stinks
It does everything it says it does. It's fast. I'm amazed at how fast this thing is. But it took a night of research to get it going. 1) First make sure you buy supported drives or do your research. I have two WD10ears 1TB in mine. They are not supported, but on the dicussion boards were several people who were using them without major issues. 2) Documentation that comes with it does not tell you that their are two set-up utilities and that you only have a small window to do the first one. Because of this, I missed the window on the first utility and my VOLUME (HD) was not formatted properly. After a night of research and armed with all the information, I tried again and setup was a breeze. 3) Use the discussion boards and FAQs on the Netgear site. They saved me from an RMA.

Love my ReadyNAS
I'll be honest, it's not perfect marks all around. The Duo is a little expensive, but for the services and capability I get, I'm very happy with it. I've been running the ReadyNAS Duo for two years now, and it has taken my home network to the next level after I dropped two 1.5 TB drives in the redundant RAID-X array (Netgear's proprietary RAID system). My favorite feature is hot swapping. When I wanted to upgrade from a smaller drive, I popped out one smaller drive and in the larger drive, which synced up with the remaining small drive. Then, I popped out the last small, and in the last large, which resynced, and like that, I've increased my capacity. It's the most secure storage in my home without relying on a remote site.

Nice Little Box
The only complaint I have was the 60mm fan was a little too noisy. It wasn't ear splitting but it definitely louder than the 2 HDD inside. Replacing the fan with an quiet 80mm with 60mm to 80mm adapter fixed that. The new fan also knocked 7 celsius off the drive temps. Like the product very much.

Well built little box, but very poor performance
Very well constructed unit with a lot of useful features. I have mine set up with two 1TB drives in RAID 0. Unfortunately, its performance is very poor. Copying files to or from the unit is about five times slower than it would be if you were copying to another PC and this is after performance tuning.

I setup this device on July 17th, using two Western Digital 400 gig hard drives (that's on the compatibly list). Everything was OK until August 5th, when the device disappeared from my network. All troubleshooting steps failed. I've called Netgear tech support three times, and I was told each time a supervisor would call back. NO SUPERVISOR HAS CALLED BACK NETGEAR, WHY?
