Heads up, if you're adding this as a second drive, you'll need to download the online program to configure the drive. I couldn't get WinXP to recognize it until I did. The product came without any documentation, but WD's website is easy to navigate. Eventually, I'll grow a pair and change my old EIDE over to a SATA as well (it's my boot drive... I hate dealing with MS). |

This 1TB hard drive spins at 7200 RPM (not mentioned but that's in it's manufacturer's specs, I checked), and costs only 13.94 dollars per GB, the best price to capacity ratio on the market today. None of my drives from this company have ever failed me and I've been computing for over 15 years. It's a steal at this low, low price, and has an excellent warranty to back it up. Thank you to this manufacturer and this supplier for making it so affordable. I'm buying 2 today. It's cheaper than buying any one 2TB drive out there today. |

I have ran 2 of these drives. Should have bought them here since the price is better though. These drives are quiet, and quick! I have RAIDed them mirrored and wow the difference between my old RAID setup and these is amazing. Great performance for a consumer-grade drive. Remember, this is exactly what it is, consumer grade. Hosting, and server solutions should be using server-grade drives ie. SCSI, SAS, or Grade A SATA. Anyone in IT can tell you that running consumer-grade drives in server environments is asking for trouble. All in all, this is a great value, if you need economical mass storage for your PC, buy it! |

First system I've ran in RAID and holy smokes it makes a difference! My Mobo can do 8 drives but couldn't afford all 8. Oh well 4 was more than enough! If you have a system that can do RAID 0 which all boards from here can, at least attempt to buy two of these bad boys and take it for a test run! Installed windows 7 pro in 15 minutes. Holy smokes! |

I've been running this drive for about 6 weeks now and it works great. It is a very quiet drive.
My Vista 64-bit system boots as fast & perhaps faster (but definitely quieter) as it did with the Previous 500GB Seagate drive. All my applications load very quickly and I have not noticed any degradation in speed. I read somewhere that someone said this drive should not be used as a boot drive. I don't know what they were thinking when they said that. I also read someone else's review somewhere saying it was noisy. If their system is noisy it's not because of this drive. Perhaps they have a noisy CPU fan or a noisy GPU fan (all stock PCI GPU fans are very noisy). It's a great balance of speed and power. But if you're looking for the fastest and don't care about noise or saving power then choose the WD Caviar Black Series or WD Blue Caviar. |

I'm sorry that ''A Web Hosting Guy'' had a bad experience with these drives (50% mortality in firt 6 months), but when he says he's the only one who waited to check quality before writing his review, he failed to read the other reviews for comprehension: several reviewers waited for considerable periods of time, at least one for a whole year. If ''A Web Hosting Guy'' read the instructions the way he read the reviews, I think we have the answer as to why he lost half his drives in six months. This is a great drive. Western Digital is on a roll. If you need a high-quality drive, buy this one! |

Shipping was on time and the product works great. I went from 2 gigs to 4 gigs on my athlon 4800 and what a difference. I do a lot of rendering and this make all the difference in the world. Great price and great product. I actually got it on sale at five bucks less and should have bought 2 more of them then for my other pc. If you need this memory buy it. |

I bought six of these drives for a new server. Thought the deal was okay, reviews here didn't show any signs of trouble.
Boy was I wrong. About 3 weeks ago I had a drive fail open. It happens, I just replaced it with a new one (WD, but not the same Caviar Green). Not a week later, another failed. Replaced it too. Today, another one failed. I am the only one in this list of reviews that is rating these drives low, but I suspect I am also the only one who waited 3 months to review so that I can actually attest to quality.
Buy something else, I know I am. |
