Excellent scanner - A real workhorse
I am using this scanner with a computer using OS 10.4.11. I have scanned 1000s of pages in color and B&W. I have scanned my collections of magazines as well as the books I use for work. I have turned them into pdfs. B&W is rarely tricky and 99% of the time you get great results. If the paper is very thin, you may have to decrease the sensitivity or put it in text enhance mode. Color can be tricky because dirt (Little pieces of paper) can get on the scanning elements causing streaking. This can be prevented by frequent cleaning (takes 30 seconds) with a soft cloth and occasionally windex. I usually stuff 75 pages into the automatic feeder and scan both sides at once. When the scanning stops, it takes up to 10 minutes for the software to produce a high quality color pdf. B&W is much faster. The software that comes with the scanner is excellent but new users should expect to do some experimenting to get great results.

Good scanner
I purchased the Epson GT S50 scanner in November 2010. It worked well, but produced dark lines on the sides or bottoms of pages when scanning multiple pages. Pros: Fast duplex scanner Fast OCR Includes TWAIN and ISIS drivers. Cons: OCR is several years old. Old software interface.

Nice scanner if you can get it to work.
I can't fault the hardware, but the supplied drivers were never subjected to even the most rudimentary of testing. If you want to develop your own software drivers, then I would consider purchasing this scanner.

Excellent product
The installation took some time but if you fowwow the instructions it is a walk in the park. I installed it with Windows 7 and it was very easy to follow.

Good Value for the Money
I bought this scanner to use in my tax business. I have gone paperless and my flatbed wasn't going to cut it. I first looked at the Fujitsu Scan Snap 1500, but they don't have a twain avaiable. I set up the GT-S50 on my XP as well as my Windows 7 computers. The W7 required a download from Epson. The software has really lousy supporting documentation so set up can be a nightmare especially if you don't have some IT experience. Once set up though it is lightning fast, which can cause a problem with a computer that's not. If I had it to do over, I would have probably bought the ScanSnap. If you have tech savy then I would recommend this scanner, otherwise don't buy it.
