A top-end CPU for under $200...can't beat that. Unless you absolutely have to be the first kid on your block to have more processor than anyone actually needs (i7 anyone?) this is a great buy.
Just got mine bundled with the Gigabyte MA790GP-UD4H, installed in less than a minute, popped in a EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 (1792MB version), 8GB of Corsair PC8500 RAM and the rest of the bells and whistles and it runs great. It is cool (41c) under load, and the fan is near silent. I am running all of this off of a 2 year old Ultra 550 modular PSU with no issue...try that with an i7.
great deal!

This mobo was very easy to install and setup. The instructions were great as well especially for my first build. Only took me a couple of hours and I was up and installing Vista 64. Has been working great for 1 month now with no problems.
I am running the following : Asus M4A78 Pro MB, AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black, 8 GB Corsair DDR2 PC6400 800 mhz, Hitachi 1 TB SATA HD, Samsung DVD Burner. Great system, extremely fast.
I received everything within 3 days of placing my order. Great job.
Works Fine

I've been using this cpu with the supplied heat sink and fan for over a month. No problems have been encountered. It is being used in conjunction with an Asus M3N78 motherboard. The Asus PC Probe II reports CPU temperatures between 104 and 109 deg. F after stabilizing. I do not intend to overclock.
great processor!!!

All I can say is that this processor is fast. Ive played games I couldnt have before and have pushed my PC farther than I have before. Ive always been a fan of AMD and I am amazed by how much they packed into this chip. With a goodsized workload, I have not seen the CPU temperature gauge on the chassis peek higher than 91F (33C). Of course, I have proper ventilation via fans. My only gripe is the CPU fan you get in the box. I have an ASUS M4A78-EM mobo and connecting that fan was a bit tricky and the pictogram manual can only add to the frustration. Otherwise, this processor is a topnotch piece of hardware.

The AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition is an excellent processor. I upgraded from an Intel P4-D @ 3.8 GHz and of course the 940 blows it away. Surprisingly its even cooler than the P4-D at idle; The P4-D ran around 115F and the 940 runs at 99F even when I OC it to 3.7 GHz it sits at 108F! The stock heat sink is fine as log as you lay down a good coat of thermal grease and are not trying to over clock past 3.7 GHz; the fan is very quiet.
It powers my Digital Audio Workstation very nicely. As for games, Fallout3 runs astonishingly well with an Nvidia 9800 GT, even Crysis runs well, and Oblivion is maxed out and fast! Passmark puts the X4 940 at par with the Intel Core2 Extreme Q9300 @ 2.53 GHz, and the Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 @ 2.66GHz. Mine received a fluctuating score around 3700 points. I combined this processor with an ASUS M4N78 Pro and 4GB Kingston HyperX 1066 RAM, for under $500. The Intel Q9400 is $30 more than the X4 940.
