Card doesn't work well on Windows XP x64 systems
I bought 2 of these cards to use with Windows XP x64 systems on Intel SATA MBs. When first installed they worked well. After a few days I started getting warnings about delayed write errors and mft problems. I installed the second card and the same problem began within a few hours. This Startech model card is unusable. I switched to a JMicron model and have had no problems.

Motherboard IDE not working OPTION
This is a great option if the motherboard IDE quits working. Installed with no problems(I had to use a USB DVD to install driver).I also agree about the layout, I had to put this card in the top PCI slot and move my video card down to the bottom and the ribbon that came with it just reached (a longer one would have been nice). But this product was an easy fix to my problem and works great.

WORKS PERFECT IN SERVER
Works as advertised, small form factor, no problems installing or using in a SuperMicro RAID server that lacked a working IDE interface. Large IDE transfers now take 15-30 minutes, instead of 3 hours when using a Firewire to IDE adapter.

Worked as promised
Wanted to install some fairly new IDE drives in a SATA only system. This card did the trick. Did need to buy a power converter cable.

If a fast boot-up is required then use USB connect
This device works as specified even with Windows 7 (64bit), AMD 9600, and 8Gig RAM. If you require a fast boot-up, however, use a USB connection. My pc takes an extra 4min to boot up while looking for IDE devices.

It works, but layout could be better
This card works just as it should. The placement of the connectors make it difficult to install it next to any other PCI card. The IDE cables touch any card next to them (usually on a sharp solder joint that would probably short the cable after time.) The connectors should be such that the connection is straight off the top of the card. But, like I said, it works.

A little pricy, compared to similar cards, but those complaining about this card either don't know what they're doing, or are attempting to use it for some purpose other than that for which it was intended. READ and follow the enclosed instructions. I'm a PC Technician, but I still look at manufacturer's instructions just to make sure they haven't done something proprietary or different than expected. This is a GREAT card that does EXACTLY what I bought it to do: add storage. Even Windows Vista found it and applied the correct drivers, with no intervention from me. It's in a dual-boot system and works perfectly on both Operating Systems (Vista and XP-SP3).
