works for me

have 2 of this for over 4 months now and is working just fine for me. well i admit the fan is a little bit sound but it protects my 2tb drive! im cool! my other one is running 24.7 and works great. the drive contains baby music and plays wherever my baby sleeps in the house. awesome!

Very loud fan

I have three of the prior versions (IDE) of this unit. All have fan noise but none are as loud as this one. On top of that, Coolmax was unwilling to replace the unit or offer an alternative solution. They indicated that since the enclosure has supports large drives, it has to have the fan. Interesting, there are plenty other enclosures with no fans that support the same size drives. I don't recommend this enclosure if a quiet enclosure is important to you. I won't purchase another Coolmax product either.

Cool Fan

I Know some others had problems with this unit, but I didn't. I got this to replace a box my boy broke on a WD External. I took the 3.5 SATA out of it and it slid right into this box. The fan is a nice feature most of the others I saw did not have, keeps the drive nice and cool. I like that the case has A full size USB jack on the back side and is constucted out of metal for the most part, that should make it more durable. Once I got the drive I was re-using out of the WD unit, this one took me all of about 5 Minutes to set-up. Win7 required no special drivers or formatting at all. Although it should be noted that the old hard drive was still formatted from the WD case. BONUS I noticed the transfer speed of the Coolmax unit seems to be about twice as fast as the WD one. All in all I'm thinking about ordering a couple more just to put on the shelf for future use!

Disappointed

Don't confuse the manufacturer with CoolerMax. I believe the manufacturer is playing off the name recognition of CoolerMax. The case is poorly designed. I has a difficult time getting the case back together as the back panel mounting holes did not line up. The fan is extremely load. Too load for continuous use. No manual or instructions are provided. I am disappointed with this purchase.

good value works great

Works great - very noisy, but I only turn it on when I back up files, so it's not a problem.

Great Enclosure

The only reasons I gave a 3 star on features is that there is no easy way to remove the hard drive after it is installed and the fan is loud. But I will have to say that the air flow is very good.

Once put together.... its nice

After fighting with this thing for 30 mins im finally happy with it. Very sharp edges when the ends are off and the two wires holding on the back cover pull off the circuit board VERY easy so be careful. The fan isn't any louder than other fans are. Its a fan people, you are going to hear it. Disconnect it if it bugs you. Good looking case and feels solid.

Looking for cooling

This unit is noisy but I don't need to run it constantly. I'm using a hard drive that is known to have heat problems so this is a good match.

Easy to Install and Works Perfectly

Unlike other enclosures that I have used in the past, as I inserted the drive, it basically auto-snapped-in to the connection within. In some enclosures, you are required to maneuver the drive until it snaps in. Also, this product has a powerful fan, which increases the life of the drive. Many enclosures do not even come with a fan. The item works perfectly.

Saved everything on my PC

I am 60 years old Great Aunt, my motherboard went on my PC, as usual, when it was not backed up, I saved ALL my files and OS with this enclosure. I have retreived all the files I needed, and I'd like to use some of my old programs, I've read I can use a boot manager to boot from this HD also, basically I still have my old PC. I haven't done this yet but plan on it. This enclosure was a God sent. I also use the rest of the room on the HD as storage. Best of 2 worlds. If I can do this anyone can. Thakns, J J
