Yamaha’s newest Air-Surround XTREME system delivers great surround sound and includes a powerful, stylish subwoofer for added dynamic bass output. The YAS-71 provides a unique Home Theater solution.
Bluetooth
The Bluetooth® logo indicates that the product is equipped to use the optional YBA-10 Bluetooth® Wireless Audio Receiver that lets you connect the dock to the receiver and supports A2DP audio streaming. With the optional YBA-10 Bluetooth dock, you can enjoy music wirelessly from Bluetooth enabled mobile phones, portable devices, or personal computes.
Made for iPod
The Made for iPod logo indicates that the product is equipped to use an optional Yamaha Universal iPod Dock that lets you connect your iPod to this product. With the optional dock you can listen to your music and operate the iPod via the product’s remote control while at the same time charging the battery on your iPod. Depending on your product’s specifications, some will allow you to use the On-Screen Display feature on your video monitor to navigate your music. Some products can even allow you to view your photos and movies from your iPod on your video monitor.
DTS Digital Surround
The basic DTS 5.1 channel sound format. Uses a higher data rate than Dolby Digital.
Dolby Digital
The most popular 5.1-channel home theater sound system. An improvement over Dolby Pro-Logic in that it offers: 1) Full frequency response in all channels (3Hz — 20kHz), 2) discrete surround channels, and 3) a separate track for bass only, called the Low Frequency Effects channel.
Dolby Pro Logic II
Improved version of Dolby Pro-Logic for music and movies. With a more intelligent matrix decoder, it is suitable for both stereo and surround-encoded sources. It offers “bass management” as well as the option of incorporating “width,” “dimension” and “panorama” controls.
CINEMA DSP Digital
Conventional multichannel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha CINEMA DSP is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent sound fields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects from ideally located in these separate sound fields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and startlingly realistic presence. It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater! The decoding circuitry performs Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-ES (DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1), DTS Neo:6 and DTS 96/24 decoding with extreme accuracy, as well as all digital sound field processing.

The sound is fine, if you want to run an IPod of computer (bluetooth) go a different direction, to use those things you have to buy ports, that cost around $150, for me I wish I had something that I could hook all my stuff to it and not have to purchase more adapters. |

My wife and I love this unit for the bedroom. It replaces a twenty year old receiver and wall mounted speakers. It's a very sleek,clean look. The high gloss will easily show dust accumulation, if that is a concern. The sound is just right for music or television. I have a satellite box and DVD player hooked up and have no complaints about performance. I am not concerned about the ''true'' surround sound in the bedroom so I have not focused on a perfect setup. I would recommend the unit for purchase. The volume tuning is also great. I can lower the volume more with this unit than I can with the TV volume and that's good for late night viewing. |

I picked this up after reading reviews of all the $300-$500 soundbar systems. This looked like by far the best deal, but it turned out to be anything but. The sound is generally subpar, probably from the pseudo-surround effect that it attempts to achieve. The "movie" setting does not have enough center channel capacity to really cut through most sound effects. Even turning up the simulated center channel doesn't help when trying to hear dialogue. That being said dialogue is very echoey throughout all the settings, again due to simulated surround. On the positive side, bass is more than adequate for all applications - powerful without being muddy. I may look into keeping the subwoofer and pairing it with a decent receiver and tower speakers in the future. If you're going to do surround sound, do it right with an actual 5.1 system. Don't expect good sound for less than $500. |

I've just completed a project to modernize my family room media center. I replaced a 61" rear project TV with a 58" plasma. Then four tower speakers with YAS-71BL. The result, I now have much more room in my family room to play Wii with my son without knocking things over! And the sound YAS produce is excellent for daily TV viewing and occasional HD movies. The only issue I have with YAS is the extra remote, which I solved with a universal remote. |

Just what I wanted and needed. No extra speakers placed around the house. Looks great. Perfect fit in space allowed. Sounds fantastic. Unfortunate it could not be sinc-ed with my basic remote for the TV, but sinc-ed well with the iPod station. It's the fault of my cable company. Not being a techie, I have some diffity arranging the CDs/songs, but I'm learning. |
