Limited fomat options

This product is easy to set up, and creates digital files that are of good quality, perhaps lacking in sharpness but with nicely saturated colors. My only complaint is that the resulting file sizes are huge. There is no option to record to divx or xvid avi formats. Even a one-hour program in standard definition ends up as a four gigabyte file or larger. Therefore, if you do not have a massive hard drive, you must convert the .ts file to .avi using another video converter program, wasting hours of time. This is a software problem. Hauppauge's hardware works fine. Possibly there is other video capture software that would accomplish a smaller file size in a more desirable format. But I tried using vlc, and it did not capture at all. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Great Recordings!

Bought for my son to use for him to create gaming recordings to post on You Tube. He loves it. Others having problems may not have computer with the necessary tech. requirements.

Video To Go

This product is great. I can now take movies and TV shows from my satellite DVR and record them on MY BOOK portable hard drive. This allows me to play them back at a later time. The playback is with a WD TV live media player. This is true HD playback. Alternately you can burn a DVD for playback. As a bonus I have a Flip video camera and the Arcsoft Total Media Extreme software allows direct compilation and DVD burning of MP4 video. I would give 4 stars to this product. Instructions and explanations on settings are a little tedious.

Good

Easy setup. The recorded video is choppy unless you set it to the highest quality, could be my computer. The recorded video is crystal clear, the only down fall is it takes about 9 gigs for a movie.

Not sure why other people have had trouble with this product, Works awesome for me, does EXACTLY what it claims to do. Extremely happy with it and would recommend it to others.

Waste of Money

This is the 4th device I bought to record TV. This device has no remote, does not work with Media Centre Windows 7. Installed it till I was blue in the face, takes forever and I give up. To the trash this time, going to buy a real PVR!!! If you buy it and you have MP4 equipment it won't work like they say!!!!! Beware or be ready to return it!!!!Its now a nice night light for the evening..

Bad Hauppauge product ever

I have been at it for 30 days, trying to set this up. Now I got it to work, sometimes. Most of the time it records the wrong channel. Then it will change channels twice, then gives an error message,

I love it.

I got this because I launched a gaming based youtube channel and wanted to upload ps3 and psp content. This thing is amazing. I can recording all of my play in relatively small memory format. 2 hours 11 minutes take up 8.7GB. This is 1 minute 15 seconds take up 3.95GB with fraps when I record on my pc. The editing software is okay but I haven't played around with. It took me a bit of time to set it up but it was due to my own fault. I am using 16ft usb extender and recording is fine, I read some people report problems with usb extender. Also to note, there is 1 second delay on pc so you need a tv to record gaming footage.

the product shipped on time and was fairly easy to set upp. overall, very happy i ordered here.

The Only Option Could Be Better

While this hardware is high-end, the product is very lightweight and feels somewhat cheap. However, the ability to record XBox 360 gameplay in 720p is nice. The lack of an HDMI interface is disappointing and it seems that while you have this plugged in you need to turn the sound up on your stereo in order to hear the sound. It comes with a rather short USB cord. Also, you might want to make sure you have a moderately high-end system to edit the video you decide to record. If you have disposable money, this is a must for HD recording. If you can't afford it, just be patient for something new to come out in the next year or so.
