RUN AWAY!!!!!
Don't walk, Run! Do a web search for System is Booting. Device freezes when the Fans kick into high. This causes the Hard Drives to constantly spin and you have to Hard Reset. I lost a 400 and a 500 gig drive so far. The FIX is to update the firmware. The catch is that if the firmware fails to take, you just turned the device into a BRICK! Do yourself a favor: Stay clear of the DNS-323 and the DNS-343.

Slow IO speed then you may lose your data !
I bought one of these 1 year ago. For most of that time the box worked but the IO speed is quite slow. I stuck with it mostly assuming that at least my data was protected. After one year, after it did a re-sync, my volume and all my data can not be read. After doing a web search I've found others have had this exact problem. To get my data back I need to install the 4 drives in a PC at the same time and run 3rd Party tools to try and recover the files. I bought a Raid box so I would not have had these problems!!

Home NAS
The basic installation was easy, and basic setup was easy. It does the job of a backup drive. It is time consuming to shut down if needed. Where this unit falls short is the supplied software. The driveclone software is very slow, the initial backup took 2 days. Western digital software on portable drives ids orders of magnitude superior. The print server does not work well, and I cannot get the FTP server working.

Exactly as described
This is a cheep and solid 4 bays RAID 5 NAS with large toaster size form factor. It works as described right from the box, easy configuration, and does it's job pretty good. A little slow on network (manged to get 13Mb per second max), gets noisy and hot if used for the long time, so keep it in the cool area but again it is acceptable for NAS. Do not confuse it with attached storage and server storage - this one has absolutely different purpose.

Great Product for price
This is a great NAS solution for home or SOHO. The product worked right out the box. It has great features: FTP, HTTP access, drive mapping, quota setup, user access level restrictions, etc. The only issue i have so far is the through-put. Data transfer over the network is a tad slow, but it could also be attributed to the green drives i bought with it. Overall a great product and would buy it again.

Works well
Overall I am pretty happy with this device. To get 2 GB drives to work, I needed to update the firmware (version 1.04 I think). Although it may not be a barn-burner in speed, it is limited by the network speed but it seems to push 50% utilization on our 100 Mbps network. It installed pretty easily and it gave me 6 TB of RAID5 that I needed for backup. The front panel doesn't latch securely, and picking it up can remove the panel, but just something to get used to.

great hardware, suspect software
If I would give separate rating for the above, this would get a 4.8 on hardware; the front panel doesn't lock securely, can be easily raised open by accident. Software is a huge disappointment, missing basic feature like defrag, not intuitive one bit, buggy and lags like hell (search-engine research it with model no. and 94 percent will give you a hint), so I give it 2. Fortunately, it does its basic job without relying too much on software.

Does okay
First of all, upgrade the firmware to 1.04, which is beta at this time. Version 1.03 locks up every day or so. Performance is on the slow side with RAID5, but I have 6TB of backup storage. Overall, it does what its suppose to and the added features like the email alerts, print server, UPS connectivity and OLED make it a comparable unit to my previous unit that was just 2-bay, for the same price!

Great NAS
Although a little pricey, I do love this little baby, because of what it does. It gives you Raid in different versions. Easy setup and no problems yet. If your doing a web ftp it's not free but an affordable premium price yearly of thirty bucks.

Great NAS
This is the best device out there for the price and number of bays. I've purchased 2 of them for extreme redundancy first one running at RAID 0 for performance and the second one holding all data from the first as a backup. not one issue yet.
