Among our latest products is the Canon VIXIA HG21 Hard Disk Drive Camcorder. It combines the ease of recording video directly onto an internal Hard Disk Drive with the advanced AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) format. Its 120GB Hard Disk Drive allows you to record up to 45 hours of crisp, high definition video (LP Mode). It also is a dual system camcorder, with the capability of also recording video and still images to an SDHC card as well.
The VIXIA HG21 boasts 1920 x 1080 Full HD, and has a CODEC capable of recording 24Mbps -- the highest AVCHD bitrate --through Canon's own Full HD CMOS Image Sensor and advanced DIGIC DV II image processor. Other exclusives are a new Genuine Canon 12x HD video lens, SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization and Instant AutoFocus and a host of other advanced features including an HDMI™ Connector. This camera performs most functions well and the design is good. LCD is effectively crisp and functional. Because of small camera size in order to insure good imaging a tripod is highly recommended. One down side is the smallest amount of vibration distorts video beyond anything I have ever experienced with DVC units. Its a bit of a trade off for convenience. The zoom is excellent and the HD capacity quite good. Panning is also an area that requires an experienced hand for optimum results. Be forewarned of a mini HDMI connection. I have DVC equipment and the picture quality between the two is very close. MTS video files using full resolution are quite large and require a computer with a lot of guts when editing. I found that Premiere Pro did a good job, but Pinnancle Studio had to be tweaked somewhat. Overall, I'd recommend this cam at the price for what it can do. Finally, the color viewfinder which seems to be disappearing on many low end electronics is a virtual must have. |

I had a Sony DCR SR200 HD camcorder. Within 2 years the video display went out (probably a pinched ribbon cable). I bought this camera to replace it and definitely made the right call. The only drawback is that the movies are in mpeg-ts which is HD quality and most video players can't read that format. You can find a cheap or free converter anywhere on the net. Great photos, great quality movies and tons of space with a 120GB disc. |
