Even plan trips from the convenience of your computer, via Windows Live Local, and wirelessly send locations to nüvi 780.
With nüvi 780's widescreen display, you'll always get the big picture. View map detail, driving directions, photos and more in bright, brilliant color. Its sunlight-readable, 4.3-inch display is easy to read — from any direction.
Navigate With Ease
nüvi 780 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator® NT street maps and millions of points of interest (POIs) such as hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, ATMs and more. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with 2-D or 3-D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. It even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road. In addition, nüvi 780 accepts custom points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs.
Where Am I?
Keep track of yourself and your car with nüvi 780. Just tap "Where Am I?" to find the closest hospitals, police stations, fuel stations, nearest address and intersection. Also see your exact latitude and longitude coordinates. The Garmin Nuvi 780 Auto GPS even remembers where you parked. It automatically marks your position when you remove it from the windshield mount, so you can navigate with nüvi on foot and find your way back to your vehicle. Perfect for unfamiliar spots and crowded lots such as amusement parks, stadiums and malls.
Plan Ahead
nüvi 780 includes advanced navigational features to take the worry out of traveling. With route planning you can save 10 routes, specify via points and preview simulated turns on the 780's wide screen. In addition, nüvi 780 automatically sorts multiple destinations to provide an efficient route for errands, deliveries or sales calls. It also displays speed limits for highways and Interstates. A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map.
Make Hands-free Calls
Talk about worry-free driving. nüvi 780 integrates Bluetooth® wireless technology with a built-in microphone and speaker for hands-free calling (optional external microphone available). Just pair it with your compatible Bluetooth phone and talk hands-free through the 780 while staying focused on the road. Simply dial numbers with nüvi's touchscreen keypad to make a call. To answer calls, just tap the screen and speak directly into its built-in microphone. Enjoy convenient one-touch dialing for contacts and points of interest.
Take It With You
nüvi 780's high-sensitivity internal (non flip-up) antenna gives it a sleeker, thinner design than the nüvi 600-series, making it easy to slip in your pocket or purse. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or on foot.
Go Beyond Navigation
Navigation is just the beginning. nüvi 780 includes many “must have” entertainment and travel tools including MP3 player, audio book player (subscription to Audible.com required), JPEG picture viewer, currency converters and more. With the Garmin Nuvi 780 Auto GPS's wireless FM transmitter² you can hear audio, including voice prompts, MP3s and audio books, through your vehicle's stereo. It's compatible with optional FM traffic alerts and our free Garmin Garage where you can download custom vehicles that show your location on the map. It also comes with Garmin Lock™, an anti-theft feature. Enhance your travel experience with optional plug-in SD cards such as Garmin Travel Guides for detailed data on attractions.

I bought this unit after trying a Nuvi 265WT, which I was disappointed with. The 780 has much quicker response to 'keypresses' on the screen. The MP3 and Audio book player is a great feature too - the song is paused while the unit tells you your next direction, then resumes playing. There is a line-out from the unit that can be connected to your stereo's AUX input so everything, including your bluetooth phone is heard through your speakers. The MSN direct features are a little gimmicky - I don't think I'll renew the subscription after the 3-month trial.
Overall - great unit for the price!
Very Nicely made, but hard to use Garmin Nuvi 780

This is a beautifully made piece of equipment, with a solid expensive feel. However, I am disappointed by the complexity of the programming, its slow response and its unintuitive direction finding. Our Tom Tom One is a much simpler unit that is much better at locating streets and locations, responds faster and works much easier. Even Google maps on the blackberry is better at locating addresses. The FM transmitter is weak, so it does not work well in my area. I am sorry that I spent the extra money.

The blue tooth is not working properly in many places in Toronto, the radio static is always there. When a phone call comes, the radio speaker does not switch to shut the radio off and only hear the person on the phone. We hear both at the same time.
The map sometimes in Downtown Toronto is showing the street name after you pass that street.
The weather & traffic information is not updated.
The good part: when you put an address on the GPS, it will show you the right way to get there.
excellent choice

GPS Terms You Should
Know!
GPS - Global Positioning System (Device) - Is a device that works
with the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) developed by the US
Dept. of Defense. It is the only fully functional GNSS in the world,
and uses a constellation of between 24 and 32 Medium Earth Orbit
satellites that transmit precise signals allowing GPS receivers to
determine their current location, the exact time, and their velocity.
Also known as a Personal Navigation Device, Navigational System, GPS Receiver,
or GPS Navigator.
System - The GPS Device itself.
Navigation - Is the process of
locating your current position, establishing your destination, and
controlling the direction and movement of a vehicle from one place to
another.
Compass - A device or feature of a GPS receiver
that shows your current direction.
Map - A map (or chart)
is a visual representation of an area, showing different objects or
landmarks; such as: streets, buildings, locations, and points of
interest.
Trip - A trip is the travel from point A to
point B.
Point of Interest - A POI is a recorded
location within the GPS Device, either pre-defined, or that can be
end-user entered. Usually these are accessed to speed setting a
destination, or a detour.
Trilateration - This is how a GPS device knows its
location. It uses three GPS satellites to trilaterate its
position. GPS units operate on a common clocking system to use
the variation in radio-frequency signal arrival time to calculate
their position.
Automotive GPS - A GPS Receiver typically
used in a car or truck. Depending on the design, can also be
used on motorcycles, boats, or as a hand-held GPS, but is not designed
specifically for these uses.
Mounting - Dash or dashboard mounting usually involves a suction mount holder,
that can easily be removed for storage when not needed.
Traffic - Traffic can be: the
display or information provide about real-time traffic conditions;
about historic traffic conditions at different times of day; or the
ability to route around typical congestion points on your Trip or
route.
Voice - Voice features can be: spoken
information that the GPS provides, including spoken directions, street
names, or alerts; or can be voice commands that the GPS owner gives to
the GPS device.
Touch Screen - A covering over the GPS
display allowing control of the features or map of the GPS Device.
Bluetooth - This is a wireless technology allowing
different devices to communicate. In GPS systems, Bluetooth
usually allows the GPS device to act as a hands-free speaker phone.
Geotagging - This is the saving of a
GPS coordinate to other information, such as a photo, point of
interest or other location. Using a GPS you can usually obtain
exact coordinates that may be used with other devices, or other
devices, such as a Digital Camera may have GOS built in for that
purpose.
GPS Vehicle Placement! NOTICE TO DRIVERS IN CALIFORNIA AND MINNESOTA:
State law prohibits drivers in California and Minnesota from using
suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles. But you can
easily use other GPS dashboard or friction mounting options. Consult your
GPS manual for more information.
GPS units are designed to provide you with
route suggestions. Unless a GPS unit contains a traffic receiver, they do not
reflect road closures or road conditions, traffic congestion, weather
conditions, or other factors that may affect safety or timing while driving.
Use the unit only as a navigational aid. Do not attempt to use the unit for any
purpose requiring precise measurement of direction, distance, location, or
