Linksys WVC54GCA Wireless-G Internet Home Monitoring Camera
The Linksys Wireless-G Internet Home Monitoring Camera sends live video through the Internet to a web browser anywhere in the world! This compact, self-contained unit lets you keep track of your home, your kids, your workplace -- whatever's important to you.
Unlike standard "web cams" that require an attached PC, the Internet Home Monitoring Camera contains its own web server, so it can connect directly to a network, either over Wireless-G (802.11g) networking, or over 10/100 Ethernet cable. Choose either MPEG-4 or Motion JPEG video compression for a high-quality, high-framerate, up to 640x480 video stream.
You can also turn on Security Mode, which tells the camera to send a message with a short video attached to up to three email addresses whenever it detects motion in its field of view. You can then log onto the live video stream if the situation warrants. The included Viewer & Recorder utility lets you record the audio/video stream to your local hard drive, "live" or on a predetermined schedule.
Let the Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Home Monitoring Camera help you keep tabs on your world.
What Is It & Why You Need It
The Compact Internet Home Monitoring Camera's unique form-factor and wireless connectivity allows you to mount it on a wall nearly anywhere, or slip it into its included stand for desktop use.
Once it's connected to your home network, you can "see what it sees" from any PC in the house, while the video stream is secured from the outside world, hidden behind your Router.
If you want the video to be visible from outside your home network, you can open an appropriate port on the Router, and then create password protected accounts to manage access to the camera, or leave it wide open for the world to see.
The TZO domain service (one-year trial sign-up included) lets you access your camera using an easy-to-remember "name," even if your home Internet connection uses a dynamic IP address.

The cameras are great from a wireless network performance perspective but the software and built0in motion detection is awful. The solution is to buy webcam XP pro and use that to manage the cameras. The software is far superior and the motion detection is much better.
Many bad problems make this not worth it.

The software is no-good. It keeps crashing, it locks up, it isn't very customizable, etc. The camera keeps adjusting it's brightness which fires off the motion detection, so you end up with a bunch of 5 second videos of nothing! I bought 2 of them a month ago and now I'm looking at replacing them. However, they may work good inside an office where there's a steady amount of light (not looking outdoors through a window, which is how I had them set up).

I have been testing webcams for my work and I decided to purchase this one for my home. I feel this webcam is very good in it's scores but it's not excellent. For around the house use it will work fine but the zoom is not very good because the pix will break up into little squares when it's used.Another problem is you can't turn the lens remotely. The support on the camera is very good and helpful.

The initial setup of this camera took a bit of time and required an online download of updated software. Once we were able to get it up and running, it was well worth the setup time.

I haven't figured out how to initially activate one of these cameras without using Windows... but once the camera is accessible on the network, it works great with OS X. All the important admin features are accessible by web, and the camera works very well with third-party OS X apps like SecuritySpy. I've built two security systems around this camera. Happy customer.
