Got this because of the compact size and yes it's great sounding. My husband who loves electronics really enjoys the unit thoroughly.
He cranks up his ITunes via MAC and let's her rip.

For a surround sound system at my place I use the Bose 502 Panaray system, the true proline gear, and I love it. However, I looked at these for my PC speakers and were not that impressed. I did have a buddy that let me try them before I decided if I wanted to buy them. The quality was great, but the bass was a bit lacking, which is still fine. The biggest concern I had, which I do to test all my speakers is do a quick full volume sweep to test the limits and basically mark where distortion comes in, and set a threshold from there. With these, as soon as I hit half volume it would pop an internal breaker. No matter what music I was playing, as soon as I hit 1/2 volume they would die and come back on. A nice safety feature yes, but WAYYY to sensitive to make this system any good to me. Being a professional sound engineer, these would just not hold up to my standards.

Love my Bose computer speaker system the sound is out of this world small speakers and to be able to connect a head set or mp3 cd player is wonderful
I am also a huge Bose fan have the ear phones a 321 home theater system and now companion 3 for the computer yes it is expensive but well worth it quality which you will never tire of and will use for many years to com

Sound clarity and depth are top notch. Bass is deep, mids and voice are true, and the highs are crisp and clean. The difference in clarity between mp3's and an audio cd is noticeable with this sound system. You will hear the parts of your music that you have been missing from a lesser system.
You won't be sorry you bought these.

Right out of the box, before you even begin to hook them up; You're going to know you have bought a quality set of speakers. Once you get them hooked up & placed properly, you'll be amazed at the sound quality of these speakers. Very impressive... Nuff said.
