CTG 39976 5m 6-Pin to 6-Pin Active Firewire Extension Cable
The IEEE 1394A Active Extension Cable by Cables To Go allows you to overcome the 4.5 meter length limitation of the IEEE 1394 standard. With this active extension cable, you can now extend your current cable another 5 meters! This is ideal for any situation where your device needs to be placed some distance from your computer.
The IEEE 1394 Active Extension Cable is compatible with 1394-1994 standards and is fully interoperable with the FireWire® implementation of the standard. Data transfer rates of up to 400Mbps are supported and you can daisy chain up to 5 active extension cables to extend the distance of your cable up to an additional 25 meters!

It does what it says, and it does it well
I found this to be exactly what I needed to extend a firewire (6-pin) cable from the stated maximum of 5 metres to double that amount (10-metres). It worked well for me and it's exactly solved a difficult problem of distance between the computer and a Digital to Analogue device. I am quite pleased with this item, notwithstanding many negative comments appearing in this forum.

Firewire extended!
I read the reviews on this one before purchasing. A large number of them were negative. I don't understand the fuss. These cables work great and do daisy-chain. Important to start at the signal source with the 'active' block attached to the next cable leading away from the source.I linked two together and a standard Firewire at the end attached to the target (PC) and it worked just fine.

Does the job
The comment about it not working with 4 pin devices is not entirely correct. The difference between 6 pin and 4 pin, is that 6 pin has power - which is obviously a requirement for an active cable! You must have a 6 pin device on the male end of this cable. I have a 6-4 passive cable hooked to the female end of the extender and it works great with my HDV camera. Of course, on my PC it is plugged into a 6 pin jack.

Works for my needs, but somewhat expensive
Seems like a lot of money just to extend a cable... saw these in the US for a lot less and I had to pay for shipping of course. But it sure does the job for my audio capture device (Edirol), so I can only say it works as advertised.
