LOVE this lens!
I am absolutely delighted with this lens. A friend had it and recommended it to me, and when I saw the pictures she'd taken with it, I ordered the lens that same day. The DOF and bokeh is fantastic, it's marvelous for food photography, portraits, and video. Yes, it does feel sort of cheap and plasticy, and yes, the focus is quite noisy. But for the price, and after seeing what it can do, I can definitely live with that! Highly recommended.

Great first lens
This will give the user a huge step up from their kit lens (compact SLR). We use this on a Rebel SXi. Indoor photos are much nicer with a lot better lighting and depth. The lens is manufactured similar to a ket lens. Plastic and light materials, but it works... so for the price this will really make a difference for you. I don't notice much difference between this and the image stabilized kit lens so I would not worry about the lack of IS. Good choice!

Good Len at the price
Yes, this is a good len for the Canon DLSR cameras. Though you cannot compare with the high end lens, it good for the beginners.

Excellent lens for the price
Zoom lenses are so flexible, however most of them don't have a big aperture for low-light situations or to create a nice depth-of-field (unless you are willing to invest many hundreds of dollars). This lens works beautifully in both situations, without breaking the bank. I recommend it !
