I bought three of these cards for our school broadcast computers. We use the firewire ports to capture video for editing. They installed easily, drivers picked up automatically, and they have been flawless so far. |

I too have a problem with the USB ports. I had to first convince my computer to accept the card then the ports are partially covered by the divider. I have yet to use the ports as I am trying to figure out how to grind the divider down to get at them without damaging the next card. |

Installation was a pain. Had to grind the dividers on the back to plug in. Transfer Speed is so-so. I get only a get a little faster speed than on my regular usb 1.0 slot. Not really worth the time, effort, and money. |

I was able to install this card with no difficulty. The slots all lined up and the drivers installed fine. I'm using it to run a FireWire Audio interface for recording. I've had not problems with it and would buy another. |

Just got mine in today, on July 21. When I hooked it up, I didn't even need to install the drivers on the included CD - though I copied the driver files to my auxiliary hard drive's partition for install files and drivers.
Although it fired right up, I only give this thing a 4 out of 5 on performance because it's uses the older PCI interface. Had it been designed with PCI-Express x1, it would've been a different story.
Unfortunately, at present I cannot afford a PCI-Express USB host controller. Besides, I've only got two PCI-E x1 slots, a single PCI-E x16 slot for my video card, and 4 older PCI slots. My motherboard is the MachSpeed MSNV-939 Viper. Yeah, an 'off' brand, but all the same it has never let me down. Well, aside from what appears to be a malfunction in the built-in audio hardware. But then, that's okay, because just last summer I bought a PCI-based professional sound card bundle from E-MU - the pro division of Creative Labs, Inc. - and that thing is LOADED!! |
