This laptop seems to be getting a lot of flack from other users... ''It isn't Vista compatible'', ''the processor isn't running at 1.8 GHz'', etc... But these reviews by novice users shouldn't steer others from buying this laptop.
As far as I am concerned this is a great machine and for the price ($399.99) it's the best around. I have seen it in action for over a year now and have no complaints. It does exactly what it was designed for; office applications, email and internet browsing.
This notebook only has 512Mb DDR333 (PC2700) RAM - so of course it is going to be sluggish with Vista. If you want a laptop that can run Vista flawlessly, go buy a $2000 laptop that was designed for it (duh).
This laptop comes with the ATi X300 which isn't strong enough to support the aero schemes with Vista. There's a driver issue with certain ATi video cards (i.e. it's not your laptop)
To get the processor to run at 1.8GHz, plug it in, remeber, laptops scale down the CPU to save battery |

To the Person that thinks this Machine is not Vista Compatable.
Im here to let you know that it runs Vista Ultimate with the Full
AERO Effect. No Glitches except for 2 things. Vist did not pick up the Wireless, and I need to download an older Audio Driver.
Its really not a bad machine. Give it a chance. By the way, My Machine does have 1 Gig of Ram |

Not really that great of a deal for a notebook that will not even be Vista compatiable. Secondly, the RAM is not even DDR2, or second generation technology. Also, the computer is refurbished, which means you stand the chance of getting a dud. Lastely, the operating system is only the home version of Windows XP that will not include word, and office. I would only think about buying if it were $100 cheaper, and maybe not even then. |

I love the laptop..It's my first and I'm sure there are better out there but for the price and the features I am not going to complain. It's perfectly suited for what I use it for such as surfing and email abroad. Not sure if I'd do any hardcore gaming on it but I'm not a gamer so...A couple concerns I have are the atrocious amount of preloaded software that wastes space and resources, and please fill me in if I am incorrect, but the ad stated I was buying a 1.8 Ghz clocked processor but when i check out the system info it shows up as 737Mhz...All in all I am satisfied with it after dropping in another GB of ram but am concerned over the misleading advertisment and will be contacting Tiger Direct. |

Pros: Good laptop, ready for Vista
Cons: The video card is not the X300, it's a 200M (stripped down X300, integrated not changeable). Almost returned it but instead made them aware by phone, however they never updated the site. Laptop only comes with 512M, it really comes alive when you throw another gig in. |

Very nice laptop, especially for the price! Same issue with the MS Office as described by BLC. In fact, the only negative is all of the pre-loaded apps. Personally, I wont use 90% of them. Machine is fantastic! Wireless works great, battery life is just over 2hrs when surfing or watching a DVD! Well worth the money. One negative with the purchase, I bought it early in the morning on 4/6/06 and the rebate was not yet posted. I came back approx 1 week later to enter in this review and realized that there was a $100 rebate available, but I already threw out the box along with the UPC code. Tiger & Gateway told me I was out of luck. Bummer! |

The machine appears like new and lacked only the docmentation for a MS Office 2K3 30 Day trial. Performance is great and WiFi works flawlessly. I left on a trip right after receiving it and was able to connect every where I tried. I did remove all the AOL & MSN offers Gateway loads in and had to recalibrate the battery but these are minor adjustments. The touchpad is a bit sensitive, but it may be my learning curve. No regrets here. |

Bought this product and it was everything I'd hoped it would be. No defects visible nor in performance. I would not be hesitant to buy another Gateway Refurb. The Gateway initial set-up saves many of the 'arcane' steps in setting-up a computer. The Turion runs extremely cool compared to my pentium 4. |
