Okay, I just answered my own question, so please ignore. I hope this will help others with aging PCs figure out if this card is for you. This is from Creative Labs site:Minimum System Requirements Microsoft Windows Vista (Drivers available on us.creative.com) Windows XP (SP2), or Windows 2000 (SP4) Intel Pentium III, Celeron 1GHz or equivalent AMD processor Available PCI slot (2.1 compliant) 128MB RAM 600MB of free hard disk space Headphones or amplified speakers CD-ROM, CD-RW or DVD-ROM drive for installation Next time I'll check the company's site first. you need an open pci slot and a cd drive to install the software. open your case (unplug for at least 15 min to discharge capacitors) and look to see if you have an open pci slot (if you don't know what one looks like google it to se an image) you just remove the metal cover on the case slot and snap this in the pci slot and install the sw. You may have to disable the onboard sound drivers controlpanel/system/device manager/ sound devices Answer by

I would have to say yes. The card doesn't give any mininum requirement specs, which is a given mean universal, plus the fact that most/all old computers have PCI slots on them (which is congruent with this sound card). As long as you have a PCI slot (which i'm sure you do) then it will work. BTW your processor is extremely slow - can't do much about that unless you want to get a new one, however RAM is essential and easily upgradable - Get AT LEAST 1GB prefer 2GB. Answer by

There is very little advantage to using this sound card without a surround sound system. The quality is a slight boost, however there is no point in spending 30 dollars unless your integrated card is really awful. Answer by

This card does not utilize my rear speaker on my 6.1 surround. The built in software can be set to 5.1,6.1,and 7.1. When i dug through my windows settings in cntrl panel, it said it could be set to 5.1 or 7.1. GAH! windoze does it again. Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so, has anyone discovered a possible fix for this, such as a driver or codec switch? Question by

This is not a ''windoze'' problem as you stated - it is a matter of the actual hardware decoding built into this unit. Though the settings may allow you to select 6.1, the hardware is clearly (reading the front of the retail box) for use with 5.1 and 7.1 systems - not 6.1 Answer by
