Stand up unit

I needed a UPS to fit in a vertical space with the outlets on the back. This unit fit the application. I have had many differant brands of UPS's They all seem to do well for a year or two. The real good ones last five years or more. My last Tripp Lite lasted three years, then failed to charge the battery. Tested the battery, and it turned out to be the function of the charge circuit. This one FIT the space, we'll see how long it lasts.

great product

I have two of the 1000va size backups. they were originally running some of the cash registers at the store I work at. I took them home when they upgraded the ones at work, and they seem just as good as new. I'm pretty sure they were at work for at least 5 years. Run amazingly well! Not too much info on the LCD screen, but just enough to understand whats going on.

Great Value product!

We bought this to replace an APC unit that flaked out. The front LCD voltage display is a neat feature. The price of this unit, new, was less than getting a replacement battery for the APC unit.

Instead of addressing the issues that are thrown out here in other reviews (that's annoying) I'll just tell you my experience with this model. As far as heat is concerned, the unit I own is barely tepid. As for brown-outs, which annihilated a hard-drive a couple of years back (reason for buying this product), this thing barely even blinks when that happens. And when the power goes out I can't even tell unless the lights were on or the ceiling fan stops working. Seriously, especially for the money, this unit is more than fine for small to intermediate PC-ers, and I highly recommend it for A/V applications. My stereo/DVD/Game consoles are all plugged into just one of these, and it kicks *ass!

I just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who may purchase this product. I purchased 2 of these at the same time, and one had it's LCD screen go up within a few months (Screen would be lit, but no text would show up at all). Tripplite shipped me a new one for free, and didn't even ask for my old one back, which was very nice. However, the second one that I bought is now having the same problem. We'll see what they do with this. Also, when they shipped me a new one, it had a different LCD, with a slider on the side to adjust brightness. They may be getting rid of the ones that have the problem and replacing them with the newer style LCD. As for the software, I agree with the other poster on here, sometimes communications gets lost. If you want a good UPS with an LCD that shows you much more information, look at cyberpower. They have an LCD that the software looks great, and has much more information available on their LCD, and it has a great price.

I purchased a similar model to this, the Omni1000LCD (1000VA / 500W version). I had many problems with getting the communication to the PC to work - I kept getting ''USB Device Not Recognized'' errors, and Windows wouldn't recognize it. PowerAlert would not find the UPS either. If you get similar errors, try plugging the UPS into a USB hub, and the hub into your PC. For whatever reason, that fixed it for me. I just used a little unpowered hub I had lying around and Windows picked up the UPS right away. Aside from that, it seems to work fine. I've had communication problems with almost every UPS system I've ever seen, so I suppose the Tripp Lite isn't really that unusual, but it's annoying. On a 10-HDD file server, the backup power for 1000VA is listed as 23 minutes. Hope this helps someone else out there.
