Up and running Fedora 17 64b in a couple hours
I actually purchased the 8 core with 600 watt power supply and corsair memory. I added 2 more 4GB DDR for total of 16GB. Didn't have to read any of the instructions. It just came together and booted my USB live distribution without any problems. Make sure you buy a video card. No builtin graphics. Also no wifi. Haven't tried the DVD yet.

good system
Good fast system. The only problem is good luck trying to find a printer cable to go from the LPT header, which is at the very FRONT of the motherboard to the first back slot in the case. MSI sells a cable but it is about an inch too short to run from the header to the back. I ended up having to cut a hole using a DB-25 die right above the motherboard ports to get the cable to fit. why they didn't put it to the rear is a mystery.

Wrong processor
The AMD fx6100 processor that this site is shipping in this barebones kit is not compatible with the motherboard bios. I had to ship the motherboard off the ASUS to get the bios updated.

Bios Update needed to Run FX6100
Received ASUS M5A99X and AMD FX-6100 6-core barebone kit. Assembled and it did not work, took to tech and the power supple did not work and possibly damaged the motherboard and processor. The company quickly sent out new items with RA for old items. Put new ones together, board would not post, ASUS web site did not help much, found from tech blog site that the bios needed to updated to be used with AMD FX-6100 6 core, so by a 2 core processor to start up with or make sure they send you a board with the latest bios update preinstalled. After bios update, everything works incredible, fastest and most stable set up ever.
