Netgear Range Extender Product Details

Receive Wireless Internet Access from any Power Outlet in Your Home
As home networking continues to spread and evolve at rapid speed, you might discover that your router doesn't reach all corners of your home. Or you might prefer to have your wirelesss from a point of your choosing, rather than be tethered to the point where the Internet enters your home. Perhaps you'd rather have a wireless network where no product is on the floor, and no cables are visible at all.

The WGXB102 allows you to have your wireless network originate from the middle of your home, or from even the furthest extremity, with no cables visible. The kit consists of the XE102 Wall-Plugged Ethernet bridge and a WGX102 54 Mbps Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extender. The XE102 connects to an existing wired or wireless router from any vendor, and the WGX102 can be plugged into any electrical outlet to create an area of wireless access.

Novel
Plug the XE102 into a wired or wireless router from any vendor, and then plug the WGX102 into any power outlet at your desired location to provide wireless access where desired.

Attractive
A new wall-plugged form factor allows the user to have a full wireless network without any visible Ethernet cables, and without any floor or desk space occupied. The sleek platinum casing blends well into any home décor.

Not Dramatic

We achieved maybe a bar of improvement with the range extender. It helped but not dramatically.

actually works

I had been unable to get a decent signal in our bedroom which is on the opposite side of the house from the modem and router about 150 feet plus around corners and walls. This unit enables me to access the network and internet in a consistent way with a steady good strength signal. It required a call to tech support since the instructions were not entirely clear.

Qualified Success

Works in a few locations. Issues are probably related to our electrical wiring although everything comes from the same electrical box. Some outlets don't seem to work while others that are much further away (150 yards v. 30 yards) work like a charm.

I had purchased this product 9 months ago, it worked extremely well to boost signal strength from 100 feet away (and through several walls). However, after 6-7 months the unit began overheating and malfunctioning. When I contacted netgear they said it was a known problem with their wall plug product line and that it would not be covered under warranty unless it was prior to 6 months of recieving the product. They did say replacement wall plug extenders were available, however it's at your own expense. If you only intend on using it for shorter durations, and not constantly it probably is a decent solution. For anything longer I'd suggest a true repeater or signal booster (bought a hawking HSB2 that works nicely with my DI-624 wireless router). The setup can also be annoying with little support offered through the supplied instructions or the netgear forums. Biggest issue I ran into was having to assign a static DHCP address to the wall plug so the default wasn't assigned to any others
