Perfect for a HTPC

My happiness with our new Home Theater PC quickly eroded when I found how loud the cpu fan was. The no-traditional case made it difficult to fit other cpu coolers. This fit perfectly. Now we don't hear the computer at all and the avg temp dropped from upper 30's to mid 20's.

No problems at all.

I decided to install this system because I wasn't satisfied with the cooling fan provided by Intel. I chose Corsair because it is a name I trust. I was not disapointed. Installation was easy, and performance is fine.

It Works

This unit works. Its not the best on the market but it performs quite nicely. To all of those out there who complain that the mounting hardware is flimsy, your not supposed to use gorilla strength to install it. Use your brains not brawn to force it and it works just fine. Fits perfectly and does not have to have 2000 lbs of force applied in a mindless rage to make sure it fits. All it needs to do is be snug!! As for the noise its no louder than a cpu fan so whats the big deal. Does the rest of your life operate at zero decibels. Humph get over it Tinkerbell and man up. Its a pump and fan of course its gonna have a little noise. But like I said its no louder than a case fan. All in all not bad. Even under load running WoW at max settings with 2 gigs of vid ram overclocked cpu and playing all night it never lets my cpu get over 27C.

load & loud

The fan mount sucked. I had to drill in my case to get the fan to fit. Then are was no speed adjustment. So I had to add that to the box to overclock. There are better cooler for 5 dollar more.

Works fine once installed

Pros: Keeps my overclocked process under 60C at full load. Idle temp is a little high at 33C, but that is more to do with crappy air flow in my case. Compact, quiet and efficient. Cons: Installation was a nightmare. The plastic piece that goes on the back is made of some really cheap, soft plastic. The little metal rivets that you have to put in there ripped through the plastic when I was trying to tighten down the top bracket. The plastic inserts that go into the top bracket are cheap and one of them collapsed when I was tightening it down. It is holding it in place for now, but I don't trust it and think maybe I will just buy an air cooler. Something small like that should be available for easy replacement, or extras should be included since they are so poorly made.

I expected better.

My AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core idles at 35 to 37 degrees C, but at 20% load while watching progressive content it goes up to 45 degrees. Not cool, by any means.
