Manufacturers sometimes offer discounts when large quantities of products are purchased without fancy, colorful, retail packaging. We take advantage of these opportunities to bring you the same quality, retail product at a lower price. Retail packaging is designed to look good on a store shelf and attract your attention. It frequently includes more paper, plastic and cardboard than needed. OEM packaging is not as visually attractive but is far more economical and because OEM packaging uses less paper, plastic, ink and cardboard it creates less waste and is better for the environment. Although OEM packaged product ships in a plain white or brown box you can be assured it is the same quality product as the retail packaged version. Buying OEM packaged products saves you money and helps save the planet…GO GREEN AND SAVE GREEN. Included accessories, software, documentation, and manufacturer warranties on OEM products may vary from retail versions. I had a hard time getting the card in the slot for my acer travelmate 4010. By looking at the guide slots in the pc and on the card i was trying to get it in upside down, even though i tried both ways it would not go in, finally went it after almost giving up. Works great but i have a usb port right next to my slot so the external power cord is hard to plug in, so far i have not needed it though. the firewire works fine without it and i think the usb 2.0 works also. I don't run alot of stuff on it at once either.

Be very wary, if you decide to purchase this card. I have an old (4 years) HP laptop, which I wanted to extend the life of. I first purchased new RAM, then I got this PC CardBus to provide faster USB 2.0 features (Firewire came as a bonus). The card worked well, for a week. But now that it is pass the 30 day mark, I've noticed that it keeps locking up (freezes everything) my computer whenever I put the card in. The only way to recover was to turn the computer off!
I've tried the whole gamut of driver re-installs and system restores to no avail. If the card is left in the slot, and the computer goes to Standby, or Hibernation, it will not recover - unless the card is removed. It, of course, will NOT boot up if the card is in the PCMCIA slot. If you have been using computers for a while, you should know that some upgrades have a tendency to make things worst. Well, this upgrade was one of those bad experiences, for me at least. Good luck.

I have a high performance laptop operating under GNU/Linux (Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron) which I ordered two years ago with a Firewire card inside ... only one problem: the Firewire card, as it turns out, is not present. I found this out after months of trying to get my Sony DV to connect to my laptop.
When this card arrived, I popped it into the CardBus slot, connected my camera, started up Kino (the Open Source capture and editing software I had decided upon) and ZOOM -- the video came across perfectly.
As an added bonus, I now have two additional USB ports I can use (now I have a total of 5 USB ports).
To have all of this for a low price -- Wonderful.
