Not Really Complete?
I was disappointed to find that in order to tone RJ-45 jacks that were already assembled you had to have another $20 adapter. Most others in the price range I have found already have it built in.

great tool for the price
I work with toners similar to these at work all the time that cost $150 and up. this one works great I don't know what they are talking about when they say the rj45 port doesn't tone that far. if it is not toning past 15 ft it means that you did not use the correct wiring order when you made your connectors. it only sends the tone down 2 wires and if they are not a pair twisted together they will loose the tone quickly and you will have that problem with any toner.

I saw problem from TKB and found no such issue. I've used tone numererous times up to several hundered feet. I did discover that the directions say that tone is only generated from RJ11 port (what it didn't say was that if you try it with RJ45 port that tone drops off after about 15 ft!) So, TKB might want to check out the directions -and Paladin might want to clear up their instructions! Otherwise, I thought this was a great product for the money.

This product was purchased with the hope of being able to identify cables from the wiring closet to other locations in the building. While we can deal with the limitations that it can only trace lines that are not plugged into a hub or switch (they must be dead lines), the tone generation just doesn't work for cables over about 15ft, so the tracing ability is worthless for finding cables on long ~100ft runs.
