Be careful: Power adapters concerns are VERY valid

I purchased 5 of these units. Out of the box, 4 worked and 1 appeared to work but had a faulty power adapter. The power light was on for the unit but no traffic was coming through the switch. After checking everything, I remembered hearing about the power adapter in a review so I swapped it with another unit and it started working. Problem: NetGear would not make replacing the unit easy. Even though it was just the adapter, they wanted $50.00 (our own cost) to ship the adapter and then we still had to ship the old one back. Not good service at all.

Out of the box, Up and running!

Handles all of my traffic well and without all of the crashes I have had with other brands. Highly recommended!! Always get a bigger (more ports) switch than you need because needs rarely decrease, rather they increase! Works great thanks Netgear!

NO Power

This is the first product I have purchased that does not include the power source to run it. I now have to go out and buy a compatible power source. Go ahead and charge me for the power but don't ship the thing without a way to use it out of the box.

Great compact Switch

Very nice out of the box. I will continue to use these products then I need a compact simple fast switch.

Good switch, bad power adapter

Purchased this unit in 2008,and it's been the hub of my home network, operating sight unseen 24-7 ever since. Installed in the basement (cool) and well-ventilated area, and connected to surge-protected power bar. Performance is ok, although you may find better in newer products with more advanced designs. Yesterday I noticed devices on my home network not being able to connect anymore, and tracked it down to the GS116 switch no longer working. Power LED is on, but nothing else, and a peculiar hissing noise is coming from the wall-wart power adapter. Power adapter has failed. Read other forums and reviews to discover that many people are complaining of the reliability of power adapters in this product line, with some of them failing just barely weeks or a few months after the 2 year warranty expires. The metal construction suggests reliability, but that feature does not extend to the power adapter.

Great, but runs hot!

This is an excellent little switch, but runs extremely hot. You don't want to keep your hand on it very long. I have measured it at 115F with 10 of the 16 ports in use. One of the LEDs on my unit is also slightly dimmer than the others, but no big deal. The jacks are great and sturdy. All of my plugs fit well. Transfer speeds are on par with similar switches. Finally, this uses a 12V wall-wart transformer for power.

Stable and Reliable

I have had one of those for over two years now. I nearly forgot it even exists as there were never any problems with it. Hidden in a closet in one of the offices it just does what it's supposed to do. I'm buying another one.

Excellent Value

Great price on a 16 port Gig switch. So far, it's working great. It's a very sturdy little box and I like the fact that the status lights are on the same side as the RJ45s. I just hope the power supply lasts. I've owned several of the 100MB versions and all their wall adapters have died after 2 years. Crossing my fingers.
