I am an oldtime electronics tech but had never made my own nerwork cables. Don't be intimidated ... you can do it. Get the guides off the internet and a good magnifier and you will find you CAN do it too. Be sure to have a 9v battery for the tester and use it! Works great.

This product was a great deal! Where do I start, since it was over $100, shipping was ultra cheap. I hit it during two rebate programs, so I also got this product for less than half of the regular price. 500ft of cat5e, a tool that cuts and crimps, 50 RJ45 heads and, a cable tester for less than $60, tell me where I could have got a better deal?

Satisfied with the product. Cable on roll in box is easy to use for installation. Suggest to add clear instructions on how to connect cable to connectors. Information on the web is confusing (many different sequences of colour coded wiring are suggested). Also: How to cut the cable sheath? Can the crimp tool be used to do that? Have not used the product yet to actually transmit data, so no opinion on performance.

Great Kit and a great price. Got $40 rebate, which made it $59. Crimper, tester, 50 pack of plugs and 500ft of cable? I'm happy! I like the addition of the cable tester. You can use it to troubleshoot cables that are already installed as the tester separates to test both ends of the cable. It also tests The crimper tool works good too.

I did a fair amount of searching and this was the best deal I found. I have ran two cables so far, one 40' and the other 50'. Both worked first time and I haven't had any problems yet (has been a week). My only complaint is that the crimper will nick the insulation on the twisted pairs when stripping off the outer jacket. With a bit of care is this is no problem though. The crimper seems to be of decent quality, although it is the first I have owned. Ordered on a Sunday evening and it arrived by the time I was home from work Tuesday! Thanks !!

An excellent value. I ran approx 250ft. The wire is flexible to go around tight corners, and its nicely wound in the box, so that it comes out without tangles. I have no complaints with the crimper, connector, or tester.
*** NOTE: To a previous reviewer who could not get more than 25ft. of cable (Raymond) without a bad connection, I had the same issue. Its not enough to make sure that you match colors at both ends. You must also arrange the wire so that the twisted pairs are connected to the right positions. For ethernet, pair 1 go to positions 1 & 2. Pair 2 goes to positions 3 & 6. From left to right with the locking clip down and the cable running toward you. If you mess up this pairing, signal loss quickly happens over a short distance.

Summary:
I bought this kit about a year ago because I wanted to be able to make up some cat5 cables from time to time and I didn't have tools or cable.
The price was right and I was quite surprised by the overall quality of the tools and the cable. I've had great results when using both and I've probably made up about 10 or 15 cables without any problems.
The cable has good flexibility and it comes out of the box neatly and easily. The ends are not difficult to install using the crimper. It is easy to damage the insulation on the wires when you cut the outer jacket so be careful. The first few ends took me a long time to get put together in the correct order but once I did I crimped them and they worked just fine. I'd recommend this kit to anyone who has the dexterity needed to handle making their own cables. Using this kit it's possible to do a really neat job without a whole lot of hassle just take your time.

I've purchased serveral of these 'kits' and have made runs of up to 225 feet and never had a cable fail. The crimper works just fine (although I personally use a higher quality one). The tester, is a great addition. I've made Ghz cables that work perfectly (at any length). I think that most people that have problems, are either pulling their runs in odd places or making bad/incorrect terminations, or are trying to use cross-over cables where a striaght-thru cable should be used.

Cables was of a good quality. The crimper however stopped crimping the one pin after a years worth of use. However, I used it several times a day almost everyday. The tester was great as well. It also it a BNC tester and an RJ45 tester. I already owned one so with the one with the kit, I was able to give to my helper who used it with all his cables. Good deal considering 500 Ft of Cat5 cable will run you about $60 anyways.

I made a 50ft and a 30ft all work fine once I figured out how to properly make the connections, good thing it includes a tester!

I spent two days pulling cable through my house. No runs were over a hundred feet. One run was 50 feet and two of the cables were from a different company. After connecting the cable, only two connects worked. I went back and checked the cables, they all checked good. Three cables 35 feet in length worked, cables 50 feet to seventy five feet would not work. I tried a differnt switcher, now help. My only conclussion is this cable may be good for twenty five feet or less.

Average setup at best. Price of the cable is reasonable (after the rebate), but the video on this page shows a ''sleeve'' being put on the wires before inserting into the ''head''. There are no sleeves in this kit. Very hard to keep the eight wires straight when inserting into the ''head''. Can I buy the ''sleeves'' separately? Where?

Great bargain! $60 after $40 mail-in rebate.
I purchased this kit and am very happy. I didn't know it came with 50 modular connectors, so I bought more. Doesn't hurt to have extras.
I read previous reviews and was wondering about the crimper. It works just fine and there is no concern about its ability to crimp. The only concern is that it tends to nick a few wires when cutting off the jacket.
I've had no troubles with two 80-foot cables or the other ones I made.
Overall, if I needed cable, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from this site because this is a good product.

NOT A BAD SET, THE CRIMPER FEELS CHEAP, AND ME BEING A PROFESSIONAL NETWORK INSTALLER, I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD GET THIS AND SEE IF IT WORK FOR SOME OF MY NEW WORKERS, BUT IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM LIKE IT WOULD TEACH THEM THE PROPER WAY TO WIRE THE CABLE, BUT IT STILL IS A PRETTY GOOD VAULE. AND THE CABLE THE COLORS CAME OF WHEN I TOUCHED THEM! SO IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, AND DON'T HAVE OILY HANDS, THIS IS NOT A BAD DEAL.

Summary:
I haven't used any of the cabling yet. I have used the crimpers, tester, and connectors to fix 3 patch cables so far. My tester was different from the picture. It was a 2 piece type, which I prefer more. Maybe I just got an old version. So beware my tester might different than yours. PROS: Tester can narrow bad connections down to 2 pins (excellent for testing old patch cables), able to test both twisted pair and coaxial, Crimpers have razors built in to cut twisted pairs all even, built in sleeve trimming for easy slip fit on connections CONS: Crimpers have an overall cheap feel to them, have to be sure to compress straight else they will pull to one side and not give a correct cut, easy to accidentally nick the twisted pairs while taking off the sleeve OVERALL: If I get my $40 rebate this product is nicely priced. As I would have to spend $15 - $20 just to buy crimpers in my area.
