This replaced an Acer netbook. I found the Averatec to be lighter and quicker on loading and finding a wi-fi connection. Screen was sharp and easy to read.
Hard drive failed after 3 days.

I have returned and been given full credit for this netbook. I suggest getting a better one if you plan to use it a lot. W-7 Starter is a joke and I wouldn't spend more to upgrade on such an inexpensive product.
Great Netbook

My second netbook. This one is faster, lighter, better build quality, thinner, has a bigger screen, and all around is better. I immediately upgraded to 2gb of memory, and from the Win 7 starter it comes with to Win 7 Home Premium. Nothing wrong with starter, but Home Premium had a couple of features I wanted.
One reviewer said it doesn't have an internal microphone. It does, and works well. I've had no problems with the wireless hookup, and it has wireless N as standard, as well as G and B. No bluetooth built in, but really small adapters are cheap these days.
SD cards don't fully insert into the front of the unit, they stick out about half way. Another USB port would be nice.
The manufacturer is supposed to be coming out with a battery with more capacity soon. It will help the short life.
Plays videos well, including mkv's if you use mpc-hc, with the coreavc video and ac3filter plugins (websearch them).
Well built, slim, and full-featured for the money

The build quality is great, especially with the brushed metal cover, it is the thinest model I've seen, and the screen is bright enough to be viewed acceptably outside. The keys are almost full-sized, maybe even a bit better than other netbooks I've tried. Also, it's about 2-3 seconds faster than my friend's 6 month old Win7 N270 based netbook in heavy tasks and startup. Only down side is the battery which takes 4 - 6 hours to charge and only give 2 - 3 hours of use. Also, it loses power in sleep mode (from 100% to 92% in 6 hours). The small battery is what makes it portable, but it limits how long you can use the machine on battery.
What Is A Cell? It's a
battery
Though technically a battery has multiple cells, we are accustomed to calling a
single energy cell a battery as well.
In
electronics, a battery or voltaic cell is a combination of many electrochemical
Galvanic cells of identical type to store chemical energy and to deliver it in
the form of electricity. The battery cells combine to produce more energy
(voltage or amps) than a cell by itself. When joined in this way, it is a
battery of cells. Almost all portable electronics use one or more cells -
rechargeable or disposable. The more cells, the more energy available -
meaning more hours of use usually.
In Notebook computers, the battery case usually
holds three or more cells. 3 Cell batteries tend to provide about 1-3
hours of use, depending on the energy needs of the Laptop. 6 cell (or
more) batteries provide much more energy, and many more hours of use. This
can be good or bad! More cells mean longer use, but more weight too!
So remember to always check for the number of
cells if specified, and choose the right configuration for your use.
Battery Trivia:
The invention of the first battery (known as a Voltaic pile) was in 1800 by
Alessandro Volta! The first known usage of the battery (as we know it
today) was in 1863 by the physician named Flora Bills.

Recovery Media
Most computer systems no longer include "Recovery Media" (Disks or CDs used to restore your computer system to it's factory shipped state). Many do not even include Operating System disks.
This is not specific to systems purchased from any one company, but now standard practice throughout the entire industry.
However, many manufacturers include software on the hard drive that creates recovery media for you. This allows burning your own set of recovery CDs or DVDs - all you need is the blank media.
Inclusion of such a recovery utility varies by manufacturer and model; not all manufactures and models include such a utility. For those that include such a utility we recommend you create your own set of recovery media after completing the Windows installation. In other words, right after you start using your PC!
If you fail to do this and encounter a difficulty in the future you may not be able to properly restore your computer.
Some manufacturers may have physical recovery media available separately for purchase; consult your owner’s manual support information section for additional information. Systems that do not come with a CD/DVD burner may still include Recovery Disks - please check the manufacturer's specs.
