Who Invented The Magic Jack?
Dan Borislow invented magicJack. Dan Borislow is also the founder of YMAX Communications Corporation, a modern phone company with the largest competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) network in the U.S.
Borislow has been in the telecommunications industry for over twenty years and is recognized in the industry for pioneering the development of breakthrough technologies. He previously held the position of CEO and Founder of publicly-held Tel-Save, Inc. At Tel-Save, Borislow revolutionized low-cost long-distance for more than four million America Online (AOL) customers. While with Tel-Save, he saved customers over 40% on their phone bills and also received the prestigious J.D. Power and Associates Award for Customer Satisfaction.
After a brief attempt at retirement, Borislow returned to the telecom industry and invented the magicJack. BAD - just plain BAD - because it never works. I bought 2 (plus 5yrs svc) as a solution for communications while traveling internationally. They never work. I've reported this trouble for over a year. It worked when they first came out but after 3 months they both stopped - something changed. Evertytime you plug it in to a pc it requires a re-format. I've spent hours with their technical support - they can get them to work momentarily but you unplug then replug them in for another use - nothing. You reload the software-drivers over and over. Finally MJ has agreed to replace one (why not both you ask...well this is who your dealing with). Their service speaks loudly as to what they're about - I'd rather my money back (they won't do that either). There are other better IP solutions than MJ. I'm embarassed at my decission to buy 2 of these. I won't bother using the one they're sending to me. It's a waste and they deserve this report of my experience with them. |

before i start i am a pc tech, i have my Hardware and networking Certificates from Collage, I have a background in VOIP at work.
I had vontage for 5 years, and switched to magicjack for the price i said why not give it a try.
Pros: price,i payed the 50 for 5 years.
Cons: sound quality,Always having to leave the PC turned on that the magicjack is hooked to.
Always had the person on the other end saying what did you say and having to call them back 4 or 5 times to get a good sound.
Once or twice a day i would have to log off and back on the software to get the phones to start working, I had it for 9 to 12 weeks and now i am back to vontage. |

I watched this item for over a year. I had no problem with installation (but needed to set it as a trusted app in my firewall).
The sound quality is more than good enough but not as crystal clear as land line (POTS).
My house was wired for two lines so I just bought a two line splitter and plugged Magic Jack into the second line. Then buy a 30 dollar 2-line phone. |

I bought this device and it does work but not as 'perfectly' clear as they make seem to be. For some reason, no matter whom I'm speaking with, you don't have that duplexing ability to listen and speak at the same time. You quickly interrupt each other saying ''what?'' all the time. You have to learn to let one person speak, then you speak.. if you say something like yes or ok while the other speaks, the result is confusing and interrupts the conversation. You almost have to say ''over'' when you're done talking to avoid this odd effect.. I don't use it much anymore and actually prefer using another service, as it has great sound and features.. My MJ number is out of Maine, though I live in Nova Scotia.
Great product for the price, but not the cats meow. |
